Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Killing Off Characters I Like

**This post contains spoilers about the latest The Walking Dead episode**

So Glenn and Dumbass are running from a bunch of walkers. (AKA zombies.) They're on top of a dumpster. Walkers are everywhere.

And then Dumbass decides to shoot himself.

I was like,

I thought Dumbass might consider jumping into the walkers. Distracting them, because they'd be like, "mm, brains and guts!" so Glenn could possibly sprint away. After all, Dumbass got them lost. So the fact that they were trapped WAS HIS FAULT. And he wanted to die anyway, obviously.

But no. Dumbass decides to shoot himself. And this stuns Glenn because a gun is not quiet. And also, Dumbass is now dead, so his lifeless body goes down--and knocks Glenn down with him.

Then it shows Glenn on the ground looking upset with guts coming out...

I was like,

"Tom. He can't be dead. Maggie has already lost so much," I shrieked. Maggie is his wife. Maggie lost her Mom. Her Dad. Her sister.

I think Tom was even a tad shocked. "Damn," he said.

I went online for an explanation. There had to be one. But it was just other fans freaking out with me. And some people were like, "No, he's not really dead because..."

But he might be. A lot of characters I like have really died. Charlie from Lost. Dr. Greene from ER. Will Traynor. (That is a book character. But still.)

However, there are a lot of theories floating around on how Glenn might not be dead. (Read one here.)

If you watch The Walking Dead, what do you think?

Or if you don't, has a favorite character of yours died before?

  1. I definitely thought he was a gonner, I was shouting at the tv, "nooo!". Though I have read some theories about how the guts the zombies ate were the other guys. Still, even if Glenn is alive, I don't know how on earth he could get away now!

  2. I was like "NOOOOO" at the T.V. There's no way Glenn is dead. No way! They can't kill him. Not yet!!

  4. Killing of major characters is part of plot progression. I totally understand this. As much as I hate it, I understand.
But it should be 1) done correctly and 2) necessary. We tuned into TWD right as this whole thing happened and I eye rolled. Of course, Kirkman hinted around last year he was considering doing this and chuckled away.
If he's really dead, I feel sorry for the true hard fans of the show. He deserved better. Like, as in, more true to the comic books death.
If he's alive, it's true click bait shit to get people to stick with the show even tho this years writing is floundering (I thought last year was a step up in the writing game; this year? 10 steps backwards.)
I'm not invested in TWD for so many reasons. I don't know how the rabid fans do it anymore. The only way I see the whole thing ending eventually is stupid.

    1. I guess we shall see. I not a total rabid fan, but I did like Glenn. I didn't really care with Lori died, ha.

  6. I don't watch the Walking Dead either, but I know your pain - I was SHOCKED about them killing Patrick Dempsey aka Dr. McDreamy off Grey's Anatomy last season.... LOL

  7. I don't watch it but my fb blew up with people freaking out. I hate when characters I love die. Like Dr Greene from ER. I'm still not over it.

  8. I don't watch The Walking Dead but I do get your frustration. I felt that every single time someone died on LOST.

  9. I don't think they would kill off a major character wtbout giving him a more dramatic, definitive death. Tyrese got an entire episode, for instance. I could be wrong, though.

  13. I don't watch The Walking Dead, but my husband does, when I'm asleep. :D I just can't.
However, yes, I can feel your pain about a character you love being killed off in a show or in a book.
    XOXO

  14. We don't watch because we don't have TV but we did watch. All I knew is my friends were freaking out about something. Now I know what. I'm going to guess he isn't dead because it's Glenn. He's a favorite. But fingers are still crossed.

  15. We watched the scene twice because my best friend was convinced that it wasn't Glenn 's intestines and that dumbass landed on top of Glenn... I have heard that the episode was shocking and I was like let it be Rick and not Glenn or Michonne! He was my favorite!!!
What do you think about rick's hand though? If he turns on the next episode I will stop watching!!

  18. I was so pissed.
But my Husband made a good point that the dude obviously fell on top of him and the angles just weren't right.
I think he is still alive.
I am hoping with everything in me that he is still alive!

  21. I couldn't read this until i watched the episode and my jaw dropped. I can't believe he is dead. I read that Rick was begging for them not to kill him off but wasn't successful obviously. Such a bummer.

  22. It shocked me and I did the same thing, checked online for the answer, but they're keeping it close to their chest.

As for Mark Greene, I still remember crying over that death.
