My daughter used to have rather cute costumes.
But then she told me, "I want to be the marionette from Five Nights At Freddy's" and I was like:
I explained that I didn't think you could buy a costume like that and asked if she wanted to be Princess Elizabeth instead, Henry VIII's daughter, because she was brave and fierce and had her mother Anne Boleyn's spunk.
She shook her head firmly. "I've been a princess enough. I want to be the marionette." I shouldn't be surprised. She had a Five Nights At Freddy's birthday party after all.
I told her I'd check on Etsy and sure enough, someone was making a marionette costume. Etsy has saved me so many times. I do not sew. I do not knit. The talent on Etsy always amazes me.
Yup. It IS creepy. You're correct. But she loves it.
"And on Halloween I'll make long fingers because the marionette has long fingers."
"If you say so," I answered, wrinkling my nose and picturing her like this:
If your kid also wants to be creepy, you can find the marionette costume here and the mask here. I like to support small businesses. (A note: I did not get any of the items compensated. I paid.)
I just have to get used to her strange costume choices. She's getting older. Her opinions are changing.
(She was all "Jump scare!" because in the game things are popping at you. No thanks. Too scary for me. But my nine-year-old loves it.)
So do you go for creepy costumes?
Amazing costumes ! Great ideas! She looks so cute! Thanks for sharing!

I love that she's not wanting to be a princess or something similar! That costume is creepy - love it!!
ReplyDeleteI don't celebrate the Halloween in any form, but I like to see kids making memories with their parents. I'm sure your children will remember this for a long time.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter started changing from cute costumes to darker ones too. Last year she was Wednesday Addams. This year, she is going to be the doll from Coraline, with button eyes.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know what Five Nights is, but when I see stuff about it, I always think of you guys.
ReplyDeleteThat's an impressive costume!
She looks great!! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha, little kids are so funny. One of my co-workers tried to talk her daughter out of being something scary for Halloween. I appreciate mamas who embrace their kiddos desire to try something new!

OMG Exactly my reaction! Hahahaha if I have a daughter who likes to dress as Freddy, I don't know what will be my reaction, haahaha maybe will try to convince her or bribe her to dress fairies again :D
ReplyDeletePS. She nailed that costumes! Thumbs up!
Those are all super cute costumes. I like it when the kids expand their knowledge about movies and stuff and allows themselves to dress up like that on halloween. Glad you're supportive!
ReplyDeleteI love how expressive she is! Her smile will make your day so much better. Well, who knew that after all those fairy costumes, she'd want something a little... darker. It's cute though!
ReplyDeleteThese are all an awesome costume, I love the fairy costume for my niece.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute. Kids are so fun. Your kids are cuties.
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! I can't wait until my little one is old enough to dress up.

ReplyDeleteI never thought of looking to buy a Halloween costume at Etsy. Although I'm not surprised because they have so many talented sellers there! BTW, your daughter is so beautiful.. My oldest daughter always wanted girly costumes while my younger one preferred the scarier ones.
ReplyDeleteThat really is a creepy costume and love the GIF that would have been my reaction to hahaha.

OMG I LOVE THAT COSTUME! I must say, your daughter has a good sense for the creepy haha
ReplyDeleteI always adored haloween and even tho it's not a big thing here, when I was younger all the kids form my village went around trigk or treating and we ALWAYS had a theme and made our own costumes.
Doggone those kids of ours getting free will and all... She might have picked a creepy costume, but it's awfully cool at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThese are the best costumes ever!!!! Can I just say that Queen Elizabeth was a hero!
ReplyDeleteSo cool that she's totally committed to her costume! Those are always the best, most memorable ones. My son doesn't understand halloween quite yet, but we're getting there.
ReplyDeleteI super love the marionette costume. Not the usual but so cute on her.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is so cuteee! Hehe
ReplyDeleteAnd she is definitely growing up and looking at things differently, which is an awesome thing
All these costumes look great, but I do love her Princess look best -- such a natural!
I've gotta admit, I'm totally diggin' the costume! I like the creepy side of Halloween.
ReplyDeleteShe looks awesome you can see that she love it:)
ReplyDeleteGreat costumes. It's so funny as my daughters went through the same thing too. No more cute fairys or princesses costumes.
ReplyDeleteomg that's terrifying. my mom never let us dress up or do halloween.
ReplyDeleteI must say that I am not in Halloween but your little one is very cute in her costume. :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! Rock on, little one! She's going to be such a boss when she gets older. I love that the can articulate what her heart desires and wants to stand out. Awesome. I was way too prissy for that.
ReplyDeleteEtsy has everything, ha ha!
ReplyDeleteThis is too funny. My kids keep talking about this Five Nights of Freddys thing and I have no clue what they are talking about. I'll have to check out what all the fuss is about. BTW - I actually think the costume is cool.
ReplyDeleteI admire you for letting her make her own choices even though you don't like them. Parenting done right.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine anyone else will be dressed in the same costume as your daughter. She makes interesting choices.
ReplyDeleteThose look like a fun ideas! It looks like you got her had a good time finding different questions to me. I really like the butterfly one.
ReplyDeleteThat costume is amazing and so creepy but also kinds cute?! I mean how does that work lol.
ReplyDeleteHonestly we don't celebrate Halloween in my home.
ReplyDeleteWe believe the history behind the holiday is worth considering for our littles and even at their age we've explain it to them.
But this costume is very unique!
Those are all adorable costumes. Wish I had a youngster still in the home. Have fun at Halloween.
ReplyDeleteThis costume is awesome, and I'm glad etsy was able to deliver for your daughter! I love the cute costumes too, but the spookiness of Halloween makes me a fan of the scary costumes as well.
ReplyDeleteFans of scary costumes unite! I love that your daughter is choosing to express herself by choosing a costume to HER liking. After all, dressing up is what Halloween is all about. Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great marionette costume. Five Nights at Freddy's is such a popular game right now. I wonder how many Pennywise clowns we will see this Halloween.
ReplyDeleteOne of my relatives has a daughter about her age who is obsessed with Five Nights at Freddys. It seems to be pretty popular.
ReplyDeleteShe definitely had some super cute costumes in years past! The marionette costume is pretty cool though. It's good she knew just what she wanted to be - my kids can't make up their minds!
ReplyDeleteI love her costume. I completely understand the creepy costume thing. My 9 year old is going to be Georgie from It for Halloween.
ReplyDeleteWe don't do creepy Halloween costumes but I do love creativity. We don't have a rule, the kids just haven't picked anything creepy.
ReplyDeleteoh my! she is so cute! now i wish we have haloween in thailand when i was growing up as i didnt get the chance to dress like this! so creative and cool! happy halloween!
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with Five Nights at Freddy's. I personally prefer cute and friendly costumes over scary ones.
ReplyDeleteI love all the different outfits for Halloween. She is so precious and intelligent. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy kids are big five nights at Freddy's fans; I'll have to show them these ideas for inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI totally love this costume! I'd prefer this to princess costumes any day, to be honest & I'm sure she'd look awesome in both!! :)
ReplyDeleteThe costumes have undergone a sea change over time. But if she likes them and is happy, than that is all part of the fun.
ReplyDeleteI like that your daughter is showing her independence and unique personality in her costume choices. My kids are quite grown so I am not sure if they will still be donning Halloween costumes or would just prefer to stay home to hand out candy to the little trick or treaters.
ReplyDeleteI love the blue fairy costume! It's so cute and adorable. I think my niece will look good on it too.
ReplyDeleteThat League of their Own costume is so cute! Way to go mom!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great costume idea! My daughter has played Five Nights of Freddy's a couple of times, and saw some of their costumes in the Halloween Spirit store. I like your version better.
ReplyDeleteWhat adorable costume ideas. I especially like the League of Their Own baseball costume. Very cute!
ReplyDeletei love her personality! the costume is awesome. creep yes, but still amazing! i also really like that you're letting her explore her developing personality too. awesome job.
ReplyDeleteI love that you are just rolling with her choices and not trying to force her to be a pretty princess or something like that!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great costume. Not all girls just want to be princesses!!

Lol I love the creepy outfit and it looks great on her. This would be something my tween grand daughters would love for Halloween. They don't like frilly and cute at their ages.
ReplyDeleteI don't like creepy costumes. I honestly don't go out on the Halloween eve because some people are on the hunt to scare people here. But your daughter is still adorable!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy I don't know the context. I don't like scary things, but seeing only the pictures, the costume and the doll don't look so scary. I remember I used to love all those stuff when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you are able to make a costume for your daughter for Halloween. Last weekend, my family went to the farm to pick out a pumpkin and I am still looking for a theme to carve the jack o'lantern.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to have read such a great writing. Keep up the good job! Visit Lawrence Todd Maxwell on Scoop.it for interesting topics about real estate.
