It was cold when we went to the San Antonio rodeo. Granted, people on the east coast would point and laugh at our version of cold--the high was 48--but still. When you live in Texas, you expect it to be over 60 at all times and when it isn't, panic sets in.
Even though it was cold, my daughter still wanted to go on the rides. There was drizzle and wind going on, making it seem even colder than 48, but she was ready to go.
(The clown trash cans are terrifying.)
The carnival is set up beside the rodeo. There are a good number of rides set up, plus an area for smaller kids. Also, you have your typical carnival food. (Fried Twinkies! Funnel cakes!)
When it's cold out, the plus is there are NO LINES! Natalie was sometimes the only rider on.
You can also go see animals, but we didn't have a lot of time. After the rides we decided to eat and get to our seats since the rodeo would start soon. There's also tons of shopping, but I had just been to Target and had very little spending money left. Plus, I'm just not really a cowboy boot kinda gal and cowboy hats look odd on me. (There's other things for sale. But those are obviously popular items.)
The rodeo is your typical rodeo with bucking horses, lassoing, and mutton busting. It's held in the AT&T Center where concerts are also held. Also, some team called the Spurs play there.
I liked the barrel racing, because the women do that:
It lasted about two hours. There are people going up and down aisles with drinks, popcorn, and cotton candy if you get hungry.
After the rodeo, the show that comes afterwards sets up. When we went, Jeff Dunham was performing. Natalie has always liked her puppets so it was perfect for her.
Yes, his humor can be a bit crass, but we're a crass family, so it worked out.
We had a lot of fun. It's always a good day for me when I get a funnel cake:
So have you been to the rodeo?
We have a local rodeo and several different fair that take place during the summer. All about the rides and fair food.
ReplyDeleteNo, I've never experienced such fun. The cold weather was an advantage for your daughter after all - as she chose the best rides in the carnival minus the queue!
ReplyDeleteThe San Antonio rodeo looks like it was such a blast. Although I've been to many carnivals before, I've never been to a legit rodeo!

ReplyDeleteNever been to a rodeo but this sounds like a fun filled day! Your comment about the weather (East vs West Coast) cracked me up :)
ReplyDeleteWow, this looks so fun! We don't have such thing in my country, Malaysia; and it's such an eye opener for me to know about this from your post :)
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a rodeo before, but have seen a venue where one is held. This one reminds me a bit of our county fair except for the actual rodeo part. I could go for some of that funnel cake with my coffee right now.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to go to a rodeo, but we don't have them up here in the north. Someday I swear I am going to get to one, though!
ReplyDeleteIt looks a bit like the state fair, love the photos of the rides, and the rodeo looks cool. I've never been to one!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun! I have a friend who lives that way and have been talking about making a road trip out there at some point.
ReplyDeleteI have been told that when I was little (3 or 4) that we would go to the local rodeo a couple of times a year. Obviously I don't remember. It sounds like it was a lot of fun though, and the fact there were no lines at the carnival would have made my daughter happy!
ReplyDeleteThat fair looks like so much fun, I'd love to take my kids to something like that. We have nothing like this in Ireland so it'd be a whole new experience for us :)
ReplyDeleteI think this is so much fun for the whole family. I like that the carnival and the rodeo are beside each other. That means more activities to experience!
ReplyDeleteWe love San Antonio, but we've never been to a rodeo or carnival! It looks like it would be great for the kids!
ReplyDeleteIt was surely a fun day at San Antonio rodeo. I love visiting carnivals with my kids.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like such a fun event!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a really fun carnival! I have never gotten to see a rodeo.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I love Jeff Dunham! We've actually seen a performance of his and he's pretty awesome. As for the weather in Texas, I'm in Northern Colorado and I don't like going out when it's below 60...I bundle up way more than others, but really who likes to hang out outside when it's 48? Not anyone I know, unless they are a snowboarder or skiier.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I hear or see the word "Rodeo" the first thing in my mind is racing horses. And where else you need to go no other than Texas! Its always fun to go to carnival so many attractions to choose from.
ReplyDeleteLove the rodeo and it looks like you and your family had a wonderful time. I work in agriculture and some of my coworkers are champion barrel racers, hog tiers and etc.
ReplyDeleteI am loving how fun that carnival looks! There is nothing like getting to go out and have some fun on the rides!
ReplyDeleteMan, no one rodeos like Texas. Even in the cold you seemed to find an awesome time with the family!
ReplyDeleteThe funnel cake looks SO good. I think it's so much fun to go here and I love that there are rides and all that. It's definitely perfect for a day out with the kids.
ReplyDeleteI love the fair it reminded me of the ones I went to in Alabama and Florida some years ago. Never been to a rodeo before but it looks like fun. All these looks like a fun activities for the whole family.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never been to a Rodeo. That would be a fun activity for us. I wonder if I could find one around here.
ReplyDeleteI have! Near Houston. I remember it being fun.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love when it's drizzly and cold and amusement park rides are empty.
I would love to take my kids to the rodeo. I know they would love it.
ReplyDeleteI love a goos rodeo and this one looks like it was a lot of fun!! I love San Antonio too!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun day spent with the family. I love the idea of going to a rodeo, I haven't watched in so long. I'm sure the kids had so much fun as well with the rides that are available!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun! It's been such a long time since I saw a rodeo live and it's awesome that you also got to see Jeff Dunham. I'm sure it was such a memorable day!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a rodeo. This looks like such a fun experience
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting Rodeo and the carnival also looks really colourful and vibrant. You guys indeed had a great time.
ReplyDeleteWe've never been to a rodeo before, but it sure would be interesting to see one. I bet San Antonio is the place to be for one.
ReplyDeletePS: I'm jealous you saw Jeff Dunham! He's a comical genius.
Well I do love the rides and it has been a while since I have had a chance to go to the carnival. I must agree that the clown trash cans do look terrifying. But on the plus side it is great that there were no queues so that Natalie could get on the rides quickly!
ReplyDeletethis looks so much fun! i have never been to a rodeo carniva, we have carnivals but no rodeo ones. i hope i get a chance to go to one one day
ReplyDeleteI've actually never been to a rodeo before but it sounds like a lot of fun. I've been to festivals and carnivals though and those are definitely awesome. The food is just incredible too.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun! I've never been to San Antonio, but it's on my travel bucket list.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a rodeo or San Antonio. I am adding them both to my bucket list. There is so much to do in the world! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun. We love going to rodeos.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like fun! We have rodeos here in Florida but have never been. San Antonio is on our bucket list of places to visit.
ReplyDeleteReally don't like those clown bins. Wanted to go and see Jeff Dunham on his forthcoming uk tour but big name live entertainment is a little pricey these days.
ReplyDelete@AnshikaJuneja I've never been to a carnival like this before. This look so much fun and entertaining! It's on my bucket-list.
