Sea World is doing something called Electric Ocean, which are exciting night time summer events. There are dance parties, a Hydro Power: Extreme FX show, plus fireworks!
We decided to check it out, because it sounded like it could be neat to see. Plus we hear the fireworks every night from our house so I wanted to be able to see them.
You can opt to purchase reserved seats towards the front for the Hydro Power: Extreme FX show and Ignite, which are the fireworks, and I did this.
Helpful hint: the gates for the show open at 830. It starts at 9. Get there by 830 and you'll get a good seat. The reserved seats are roped off, but you can get seats right behind that are just as good in my opinion.
We got to Sea World around 6, and decided to get something to eat. I've always been a fan of the Smokehouse Grill.
There is a decent selection of food to pick.
I got the ribs with fries. And cookies. I love those cookies.
Helpful hint: if your older kid doesn't like any of these choices, they can get a plate full of chicken nuggets and fries. My son doesn't really care for BBQ meat, so I asked about the chicken nuggets since there is a Kids Meal. My son is 16, so obviously he'd need more food, so I was glad when I found out he could have a nugget plate with more food.
After we ate, we decided to walk around the park. We went into the Chill Out Bar. Yes, children are allowed in! It's 50 degrees in there, which was a wonderful reprieve from the 100 degree Texas weather.
Some characters with light up costumes came out to dance on the floor. There was a DJ in the corner spinning tunes. Yes, it is loud.
But there is booze:
There's also non alcoholic options, plus snacks.
We didn't stay long because it was noisy to the point where we had to shout. But it is a great place to cool off and dance.
During the week, there is a Sesame Street parade, except on Tuesdays, when we went. On Tuesday there is a Dance Party with the Sesame Street characters. Yes, my kids are older, but you're never too old for Sesame Street, so we went to check it out.
Natalie was laughing at me because I freaked out when I saw Big Bird.
"You're a grown lady!" Natalie reminded me as I jumped and shouted, "Big Bird, Big Bird!" A toddler turned and gaped at me as well but you know what, it's BIG BIRD. I watched Follow That Bird more times than I even remember when I was a kid.
They play cute songs and then come out and YOU CAN DANCE WITH THEM!
"Tommy!" I hissed to my son. "Go dance with Elmo! You used to love him! You called him Mo Mo!"
Tommy declined.
My kids are boring.
We also went on the rides.
Helpful tip: you don't need to pay for quick queue most days during the week. Well, I probably would on Friday, but if you go mid-week, there's never more than a 15 minute wait for the rides. The Steel Eel was only 5 minutes, so my daughter went on it 3 times.
We checked out this cool peg board that looks awesome at night.
Helpful hint: if you need to charge your phone, Sea World has these areas where you can do that:
When it gets dark, the fun comes out. There's an electric ocean party zone, plus these cool screens.
We couldn't stay out too long, because we had to get ready for the Hydro Power: Extreme FX show and fireworks!
The show was pretty awesome, with a talented band and singer, plus a high energy MC. In the background is the ski show, and it's pretty impressive what they do. Look at that man in the air! I'd immediately lose my balance and tumble to my death. But these guys were professionals and talented.
After the show, you can take a quick peek at the park all lit up, and it's pretty cool.
Do I recommend Electric Ocean? Yes! I hope Sea World does this every summer. We might even go again before the summer is over so we can experience the dance party!
Have you been yet?
