Why You Should Adopt Cats

We have two cats.

Ruby.

And Max. He's our oldest. He's 11.

We got both cats at the Humane Society. Honestly, when we got Max, we were just looking, but you know how that goes. There were a bunch of kittens in a room and Max walked over when I was looking in and pressed his paw against the window as if to say, "You have to take me home!"

We did.

I've always loved orange kitties. Max reminds me of Morris the Cat. You know, Morris the 9Lives® cat?

Did you know Morris was discovered in a Humane Society by Bob Martwick, an animal talent scout? Morris had quite the personality--just like Max! I mean, Max knew if he put his paw against the window that he'd be adopted. He knew how to be cute.

Morris did so well in his audition that he was dubbed "the Clark Gable of cats." What a compliment! He was in over 50 commercials. I'm thinking my Max could be in a commercial if he had delicious 9Lives wet food to entice him. You can learn more about Morris the Cat's story here. I think it's so cool that Morris never forgot where he came from and makes it his mission to save other cats. In 2007 he launched Morris' Million Cat Rescue® and will not rest until every cat has a home. This year, Morris the 9Lives Cat is celebrating his 50th Adopt-i-versary!

There are many reasons why you should adopt a furry friend from a humane society, and here are the top ones.

1. You are rescuing an animal and giving them a home.

Normally there are tons of animals wanting a friend. When we walked in, there were cages and cages of cats. We always look for ones with personalities, like Morris. With Max, he had the paw on the window. With Ruby, she wouldn't stop meowing at us until we came to her. When we dared to walk away and look at another cat, she gave indignant meows.

2. The money you pay for the adoption fee goes back towards the humane society.

Yup! We paid about $60 for each of our cats, but it all went back to the humane society. It's worth it, because our cats came with their vaccinations.

3. The animals usually come spayed and neutered!

This can save a bunch of money. It can be pricey to do this.

4. They become true family members.

Yup, we love our cats like family. And I always want to show them how much they are appreciated, so I pick up 9Lives wet food at Dollar General.

You can find the 9Lives wet food in the cat aisle.

I picked up the Meaty Paté with Chicken and Tuna and Super Supper flavors. 9Lives has been around for over 50 years and knows how to help cats lead long lives so I feel good purchasing the food. Plus, 9Lives gives me the confidence that I am doing the right thing when I buy it. I mean, if a company is around for over 50 years, it shows they know what they are doing.

Even better? Here's an Ibotta coupon for 9Lives wet food! I love how 9Lives celebrates and champions all cats. I'm always for a company that adores cats as much as I do. Seriously. If I could, I'd have a house FULL of cats. And speaking of cats, you MUST check out this Cat Pack article. There are tons of adorable cats. I probably squealed too much.

Since 9Lives believes cats deserve to live well, so you know they'll enjoy the food. Ruby was irritated with me here because she was all, "Um. Do I get to EAT some?"

Yes Ruby. Here's your food.

So remember. If you're looking for a cat, check out the Humane Society.

Because who knows? You might find your own Morris the Cat.

  1. I'm now singing that Ruby and Max song from the cartoon my kids watched at one time. I didn't realize Morris was found at a Humane Society. What a great story about Morris!

  2. I am definitely not against getting a cat. Unfortunately for us there are many people in our family that are allergic to them. If they were not I would totally have one. I think they are pretty cool animals.

  3. Sadly I'm horribly allergic to cats :( But we've always adopted our dogs from shelters!! I much rather give a forever home to an animal in need.

  14. Oh gosh, I wish I didn't have a massive fear of cats. I got traumatised when I was young by being scratched by a wild cat that I can't stand any now.

  15. I love cats! I was considering getting one not long ago but I still can’t decide what breed.

  16. Can I really adopt cats? I don't think so since my last cat was a mess...Too bad since I couldn't care for it well but if I was to consider a cat that's sprayed, then I would. Sounds nice giving it a home.

  17. Thank you so much for promoting adoption! It's really important that people spay and neuter their pets. There are so many cats left without a home and adoption helps stop that cycle.

  18. My vet is a clinic that's connected to our local animal shelter. I was over there yesterday picking up flea medicine, and they had a sign that said they are at full capacity for cats and kittens. So many kitties that need forever homes, I wish I could take them all. All of my cats have been adopted. One from right outside my front door (he was a feral kitten) and other from shelters or rescue groups.

  20. I have actually just adopted a cat and he is currently sitting next to my laptop, purring and not letting me type. :) He was found by a friend in an abandoned garden, together with his brothers and that's how he ended up with me. He is such a loving little kitten.
