What Happens When You Have Older Kids On Christmas

How was your Christmas? I'm still cleaning up.

My kids are older, so it wasn't as chaotic as it has been in past years. When you have older kids, Christmas can be a little different.

Let me explain the ways.

1. You have to wake them up. It was about 830 and both kids were still passed out.

2. They'll mostly get things like video games. This is a plus because you don't have to put toys together! Or take them out of their packages.

3. And tons of food. My son eats all the time, so he got a bunch of chocolate and snacks. They'll be gone in like 3 days.

4. But if you have a girl, it might be makeup.

5. Oh, they'll also have to post photos of their gifts on social media BEFORE they open them.

6. Batteries will still be forgotten. I have tons of AA ones, but naturally this requires Ds. Naturally.

7. You'll be reminded that your kids are growing up, but will still think it's sweet that your tween is focusing on the one toy she asked for, rather than the make up.

  1. I miss when my kiddo was younger! I don't think there was one toy this year and I honestly miss that! I do like not having to put toys together though!

  2. First we enjoy the sleeping in part compared to when they were little. Just wait till the nest is empty. We watch by face time this year.

  3. Things can definitely change when we grew older. Still fun and memorable, just different. With time we learn to appreciate moments and people more than gifts. I'm glad that you enjoyed your Christmas<3

  5. Time passes so quickly. I was glad to have my college kid home for the holidays. I didn't think he'd ever wake up. I think I was more excited than he was to open his gifts.

  6. Haha wish my girls woke up that late. My older one came in at 5am and made me get up. Can’t wait for this older stage.

  7. My kids are the same way. It's so different now. Mine were up about 7:30 on their own, but no more 4 am wake up calls on Christmas.

  9. My kids are getting older, and even though they are only 9 and 11, they slept in and there was much less chaos.. they did get makeup, and things like gift cards and clothes.

  13. My kids are older and we had brunch at 12ish. I cooked everything the day before so it was a matter of just warming up the food. I did not want to be tired on the day itself. We played Scrabble as usual in the evening.

  15. I didn't sleep well and I was thrilled that my older kids were sleeping in late, because I went back to bed and got another few hours of sleep. The slightly younger set had to hang out upstairs until I was awake and done making our very popular favorite apple puff pancake casserole. My daughter is 14.5 yrs and is still not interested in makeup, and I don't mind that. I always worry that one of them is going to be disappointed. She was worried because she knew most of what she was getting - but I managed to sneak in a few surprises!

  16. I don't have kids yet, but for sure little ones experience Christmas and gifts in a little bit different way. However, I think it's one of the most special times of the year, no matter how old the kids are. :)
