The End Of The School Year Blues

School ends June 6th.

I thought that meant that May would be fairly easy. I mean, yes, students still have to learn something, but I thought it meant no more projects.

I was wrong.

Natalie was all, "Oh, I have to do two slideshows," and I was like, "Seriously?"

I told her she was on her own. Usually she IS on her own, but I'll at least look it over and make sure the project makes sense. I'll also remind her to actually DO the project, because as I've mentioned before, she procrastinates.

This time?

I'm checked out, guys. I did not expect projects.

Natalie is checked out, so it makes things equally fun.

Also, it means she's sort of BSing on her project.

See:

Yup, it's on Albert Einstein, and no, I'm not sure how the teacher will take it. But, you know, it's MAY. If he expects something spectacular, he should have assigned this earlier in the year.

"Mom, look at my other slide!"

Oh, geez. I can't help myself, so I did correct her on some errors ("a lot is TWO words Natalie, come on, you learned this in elementary school"), but I didn't tell her to take out the silliness.

Why?

It's MAY.

Also, she was like, "My science teacher wants us to get a booklet together about the planets with ten facts about each of them."

I'm like:

It's MAY! Why do they need a book about the planets? Can't they just learn about the planets from their own school books?

So Natalie did this for Neptune:

I shudder to think what she did for Uranus. I didn't even ask. I'm worried, guys.

Anyway, who knows what she'll get on these. Honestly, I'm over the school year, so I can't be bothered to care much. I just told her to make sure she completes them on time.

So are you over the school year?

  1. It is sad to think that the school starts to like us and we would like to do it when it has already passed ...

  2. It looks like she has your sense of humor!

  3. I remember my school years and how the last 2 weeks were pretty much relaxed, we didn't do a lot in those days. I like your daughter's approach of the projects. Very creative :)

  4. SO many projects! I'm a teacher and last year I was forced to assign a 3 page paper the second to last week of school.

  5. Oh man, I remember the end of school and how it was SO hard to concentrate. Good luck to her finishing strong!

  6. My oldest grandson has a project due next week. He takes honors classes and he's already been exempt from his tests because of his A average. I just don't understand why a project is due after the grades have been tallied.

    1. I'm a teacher - grades are generally not finalized until the last day of school. There may be a requirement for a certain amount of grades, that's what I deal with.

  8. My 5th grader has had two weeks of no learning as the school year ends this week while my 6th grader still has finals. I dont mind them still learning as it is good for them. I am not ready for them to me home for the summer.

  9. School is a strange thing, it seems to push so hard, tests / grades etc.. etc.. I hated it. Good on Natalie for putting a bit of fun in to it!

  10. I was just talking with a friend about her child's projects that are due in May. I remember when my girls were small it always seemed that these projects ended up being parent/student projects instead of just student projects. It's ridiculous that parents are often so deeply involved in these "student projects" (and yes, it happened over here in this household too), but that's how life plays out with these things!

  14. Well, I wish that when June comes, she is really done, because, believe or not some school give a summer assignment, mostly reading a short book. Good luck!

  15. I don't know why the school wants to give stress to kids with all the excess projects. Hope she enjoys her vacation :)

  16. Thank goodness my daughter's last day of school was yesterday but we are not looking forward to August as the last two very serious years of secondary school begins at the end of August. I have to agree with you though it is the end of the school year so it is too late for projects.

  17. I am so agree with you! I can't wait that the school is over. I have two pupils so I know what this means!

  18. She has an amazing sense of humor! I look at it from that standpoint. Maybe this is her way of "sticking it" to the teacher, for two projects this close to the end of school? Either way, I laughed a lot at your post and her sense of humor! The kid's going places!

  19. I used to be always so excited/anxious during end of the year and so it was hard to focus. I love the Einstein project that was put together!

  22. The end of the year projects are killing me right now. My kids are checked out so I am having to keep track of it all.

  23. I can't believe it's near the end of the school year either. My daughters have to go til the 7th of June because they missed many school days thanks to the snow and cold. It's exciting and not at the same time. My kids both really enjoy school.

  27. I am always kind of checked out by this time of year. There is just so much going on and it is tough to keep track of everything. Those memes about school lunches on the first day of school vs. the last -- so true lol!

  28. Before we started homeschooling seven years ago, our older boys went to public school. I remember what May was like. Kids, teachers and parents are checked out. I love your encouraging spirit with her!

  31. Yup the kiddos are usually drained from the school year and are just ready for summer around this time.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow, that is too much to take in! Kids really get drained from all years projects and stuff. May should atleast give them a bit relief!

  33. Your girl has quite a sense of humor. Glad she's ready for the summer though. Who isn't? :)

  34. I can feel her totally! It can be so hard to concrentrate when school year is almost over. I would literally switch off and not to homeworks...till I learnt thehard way! Ha-ha!

  35. Its the storm before the calm. The kids are gearing up for summer mode and yet have a bunch of submissions to work on.
