Storybook Dining At Wilderness Lodge Walt Disney World Review

"Wow," my son Tommy said stepping into the Wilderness Lodge.

"Wow," I repeated.

It was gorgeous.

We were all set to check in. I'm joking. I can't afford the Wilderness Lodge. But we were there to eat at Storybook Dining over at Artist Point. While we waited for our reservation time, we took in some sights.

Tommy also sat on this massive red chair. I feel like I need a massive red chair in my home. Then I could sit there and feel like a Queen. I'd be all, "Children, be sure to do your chores. Jeeves, please make dinner tonight, I am entirely too exhausted."

Anyway, Storybook Dining has been open for a few months, and you get to meet Snow White, Grumpy, Dopey, and the Evil Queen.

As I mentioned, it's at Artist Point, and we were called back before our reservation time. The menu is like a book!

And yes, people have been talking about the different selection of food available. It's not a burger and fries place. It's a dinner adventure! Which is sort of what it's like at my home, only that adventure is things burning. This is an actual FUN adventure.

The room is beautiful and magical with twinkling lights overhead:

So you get to share appetizers, pick an entree, and share desserts. There's also alcoholic drinks and non-alcoholic drinks, but I just stuck with Diet Coke.

You also get an apple with signatures already on it, but the characters WILL still sign autograph books.

The appetizers are mushroom bisque, Hunter's Terrine, and Wicked Shrimp Cocktail.

Now, I don't like shrimp, so Tommy got to eat those. He said they were good and liked the flavor. He said they were slightly spicy, which he was a fan of.

I was curious about the Hunter's Terrine. There was sauce to put on it, and I felt like I was in Downton Abbey as I ate it. I mean, what's terrine? I don't know, I don't eat fancy foods. We are a hot dogs and Tater Tots kind of family, but I love to try new things.

"Do tell me what you did over the weekend," I said to Tommy as I slowly cut the meat.

"Played video games," Tommy answered, shoving shrimp in his mouth. He is not a dainty eater.

Finally, there's the Mushroom Bisque, and honestly, I do not like mushrooms. However, it was served in a mini cauldron, so I felt like I needed to try it.

If I liked mushrooms, I think I'd have liked it better. When Storybook Dining first opened, it was a squash bisque which I would have preferred, but I think they only have that for the fall and winter months. Balls. If you like mushrooms, you'll like this. My son likes mushrooms and said the soup was "good." (He's a teen. It's hard to get him to say several words in a row.)

As you eat, the characters come by. Snow White skipped over after I had just placed soup in my mouth so I sort of garbled out a, "Hewwo," as soup dribbled down my chin.

My son gaped at her, because she's a WOMAN, and Snow White graciously ignored my filthy face and my son's eyeballs bursting from his face and asked how we were.

I wiped my face and said I was fine, my son still gaped, and Snow White asked if we'd like a photo.

After the awkward moment, the main course arrived. Tommy and I ordered the prime rib, which he said was hard to chew, but still ate, because he's a teenager. The potatoes are made with a horseradish sauce, so they do have a bite to them. I liked it, but you can request plain mashed potatoes.

The popover was interesting. Tommy didn't care for it. I thought it was okay. There wasn't much flavor to it.

Here are the other main course selections:

Grumpy came over while we were sawing through the meat, and it got a bit strange because he was pantomiming something, and I had no idea what he was trying to say. I like when they come with "helpers" because then they can translate. He kept doing something with his fingers, and I kept saying, "What Grumpy?" and he would do the finger thing again and I was like, "WHAT?" and he just waved a hand through the air and gave up.

(To this day, I still wonder what he was saying. Maybe he was making fun of how I was cutting my meat?)

Grumpy played his part.

Dopey came over soon after, a burst of energy, and Tommy was excited.

Dopey didn't wave any fingers at me, he gave me a hug and I asked how he was doing, and he bounced around. He's how I behave after 3 Diet Cokes.

After Dopey left, the desserts arrived.

I kept taking photos, and Tommy went, "Mom, you take too many photos."

Probably. But there was edible glitter on the desserts, and this was exciting to me. If you're a straight male, you don't get the excitement.

I mean, look at this apple!

Which actually tasted strange to me. It was a chocolate sour mousse. I took a bite and gave the rest to Tommy, who liked it.

Then there was a Gooseberry pie, which was basically an apple pie. I gobbled that up.

Finally, this was basically a cake in a jar, called Miner's Treasure. I loved it.

Oh, you also get popcorn and a chocolate heart. This comes in a smoking treasure chest, but our waitress rushed through that, so I didn't get photos. She walked over with the smoking treasure chest, muttered something about chocolate hearts and dumped it on a plate. I get it though, she had like 4 other tables and if I heard Whistle While You Work 10+ times throughout my work day with a chipper Snow White flouncing around the room clapping her hands, I'd be a bit miffed too.

In between eating, there are fun songs and dances. Kids can go up and follow the characters around. If I had ordered an alcoholic beverage, I might have done this.

It really is a cheery meal. Was the food the best? Well, no. But it wasn't the worst either. However, I loved the ambiance and atmosphere.

And meeting the Evil Queen. She doesn't come to the table, you go to HER, because she's Evil and it's beneath her to go from table to table. There is a Photopass photographer taking photos here.

Tommy was bold and told the Evil Queen that Snow White was beautiful, and the Evil Queen pointed out that SHE was beautiful, thank you very much.

She was fabulous. It was my favorite part of the entire meal. Well, her and the desserts.

Would I go back to Storybook Dining? Yes. But it is $55 per adult ($33 for kids ages 3-9, and yes there is a kids menu), so the total can make a person want to fall off their seat in shock and start behaving like Grumpy.

You can make reservations by calling 4079395277 or by going online here. (Confused on how to make reservations? I have a post about that here.)

Have you ever eaten at Storybook Dining? Would you?

  2. It looks like a lot of fun and I would definitely eat there if I had the grandkids with me. Of course, I wouldn't be at Disney without the grandkids. Otherwise, I would probably pass.

  12. It looks like it was so much fun, and Tommy really looks happy in the photos! The lodge is beautiful. If I thought my kid would be really excited and enjoy it, I could justify the cost. But my kids are older, I don't think they would appreciate it.
