Building The Memories With Dad Before He Deploys

This post is sponsored by Lowe's but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

I'm always glad when my husband is around to build things. I admit, I am not the best at it. But he's able to put things together, and I appreciate it.

The thing is, he's not always going to be here to put items together. He's in the military, and he'll be deploying soon. So right now, I've been appreciating the fact that he can build things or help to make sure my daughter's shelf is level. Sometimes she even helps him which is good, because maybe she'll be better at setting things up than her mother.

Natalie, she's always been a Daddy's Girl, so when he deploys, it's tough on her.

She'll cry a bit and sometimes even gets a little upset. She's older now and understands that her daddy helps defend his country and sometimes it means he has to go away. But still. It's not easy.

However, because her dad has built or put up many items around the house, when she looks at those she can think, "My Dad did that." In some cases, she helped him so it'll be a good memory.

Lowe's invites you to share the things YOUR father has built. Or the father of your children. Share on social media with #DadBuiltThis. I always marvel at the things some people can create. Check out Twitter and Instagram for inspiration.

Yes, it's going to be tough on my daughter to say goodbye to her Dad. But she'll be okay. And when she's really upset, she can look at the shelf she help put up and pull down the jewelry box her father brought home on a past deployment.

And she'll remember with a smile.

  2. I know how hard it is when they have to leave. It’s hard on the kids, but the older they are the more they understand.

  39. Such a great way to bond. Working in any relationship is important and with fathers it is more a challenge since they are most of the time away from family.
