The Natural Bridge Caverns were discovered in 1960 and they've found human remains that are 8000 years old. It's pretty neat. If you're worried that the children's brains are turning to mush, they'll learn something here.
And yes, it is safe, there are signs everywhere and I noticed people cleaning constantly. We kept our masks on throughout the tour.
You can reserve times online and you have a tour guide who takes you into the cavern. If you reserve in advance it's cheaper, and you're guaranteed a spot. They only have so many slots per tour to keep the group small. We did the Discovery Tour which is about a 1/2 mile in the cavern. I believe it took about an hour.
You're lead down to the cavern entrance and it looks like this:
I recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes because you will be going up and down throughout the tour. My mom is in her 60s and was able to do it, so if you're healthy, you should be okay.
It is about 70 degrees inside and the humidity is 99%. So it will feel a bit warm.
It feels like you're in another world. I felt like I was on the set of a Star Wars movie.
There is sanitizer throughout the tour, so I never felt like I was in danger.
If caverns aren't your thing, you can do the Twisted Trails Zip Rails and Rope Course. There's also a Hidden Passages cavern tour, plus shopping. There's also a maze and you can go gem mining. We just did the Discovery tour but will probably return to do the others at some point.
We had a fabulous time! If you want to learn more, click here.
