How Halloween 2020: The One During A Pandemic Went

So I had noticed on the neighborhood page that many people were still planning on passing out candy on Halloween. Myself included. I knew I'd be outside with a mask on, so I felt safe. If we had a family member with an underlying condition, we probably would have skipped it. But we don't so we decided, sure, let's do Halloween: but with added safety.

My daughter opted NOT to trick or treat and spent time with a friend.

My son decided to go to a few houses, which was fine by me, because I was curious on how people were setting up. And yes, my son IS 18, but you know, I've given candy to adults before, and so long as they're polite, I don't care how old you are. Everyone loves chocolate.

Oh, my son was Mr. Poopy Butthole from Rick & Morty, a show on Adult Swim.

The only problem was the costume was that it fogged up, making it difficult for him to see.

My daughter was a rat. Who changed outfits, apparently.

A lot of houses had candy out front in bags.

Some had candy chutes.

Others, like myself, did it the old fashioned way with masks. I would just hand over candy from a bowl. Wearing a mask.

We got a good number of people. I was glad to see so many people out and so many houses participating. I think everyone did what they felt comfortable with, which is pretty amazing. I know some stayed in and had candy scavenger hunts, which also sounds like a blast.

I felt it was a good evening. It brought neighborhoods together and reminded everyone that yeah, things might be different, but you can still have a good time.

So did you go trick or treating or get a lot of people at your house?

  1. I envy you a lot, because despite everything you managed to live Halloween and it is beautiful to us instead we have been forbidden and if it goes on like this they will also steal Christmas from us ç_ç

  2. I saw people had put out candy on tables in bags, which was a smart idea, I thought.

  5. Looks like your really enjoyed it! Our town had a drive through balloon glow and it was awesome! I spent the night with my teen and his friends and it was one we will treasure.

  6. love their costumes! While our town did a few things (our cheer gym did a fun drive through), we chose to stay home. I debated attending the Sensory Friendly Night as we do every year but then the weather turned really cold and it rained. Our daughter is extremely high risk and considering I have to eliminate so much of the candy she gets anyways due to food allergies, it just wasn't worth getting out. From posts I've seen, many of the drive through neighborhoods were a disaster traffic wise and there were lots of major crowds with no masks. I loved seeing how everyone did their own version of Halloween and made it fun for the kids at home.

  7. My kids dressed up as Cleopatra, and also as Johnny and Daniel from The Karate Kid. We went to a few friends/ family members' houses, but it seemed like very few people were out this year.

  8. My neighborhood was quiet. Only about 15 houses participated and we only saw about 10 kids out. So the people gave my boys handfuls of candy.

  9. What cute costumes! We didn't go out, for our own reasons, this year :( The kids were OK with it as we did buy them a little goodie bag full of candy so they could do their annual 'candy swap' at least. I hope we can get out next year.

  10. It looks like you had a good Halloween! We used a candy chute and wore masks, so we hope we will stay healthy. We had about half the number of trick or treaters we normally get.

  16. We didn't get anyone in our neighborhood! And we decided to stay home and just eat a bunch of treats here. Being high risk, I didn't want to take any chances, even with masks.

  29. Such cute costumes! I don't think a lot of people in my neighborhood celebrate Halloween. I haven't seen anyone on the streets costumed, or going to trick or treat.
