What Happens When You Have Older Kids On Christmas

When your kids are older, I find Christmas isn't as chaotic. Christmas can be a little different.

Let me explain the ways.

1. You have to wake them up. It was about 830 and both kids were still passed out.

2. They'll mostly get things like video games. This is a plus because you don't have to put toys together! Or take them out of their packages.

3. And tons of food. My son eats all the time, so he got a bunch of chocolate and snacks. They'll be gone in like 3 days.

4. But if you have a girl, it might be makeup. I don't understand makeup, so I have her show me what she likes before Christmas so I know.

5. Oh, they'll also have to post photos of their gifts on social media BEFORE they open them. Yup. Gotta get those new shoes on Snapchat!

6. Batteries will still be forgotten. I have tons of AA ones, but naturally this requires Ds. Naturally.

Things are certainly different when kids are older. But personally, I prefer it. Still messy. But not so intense.

  1. I think whatever age your kids are, they still love the holidays because they are cozy. I remember being a rebellious kid, but the holidays always made me so very happy!

  2. I have older kids too now and they do not ask for a lot but the gifts are more expensive. I am not waiting for the car request which will be coming soon.

  12. No matter what age, I loved unpacking gifts under the Christmas tree. In my country, Santa comes on the 24th in the evening. Usually children go out caroling and when they return, Santa has already visited their house, so the evening is all about opening presents.

  14. Christmas gifts change with the kids' age, but some things are unchangeable. Seems they had lots of fun! :)

  16. It's interesting how tastes change over the years. Yes, less intense but still as eventful. What's important are the shared moments together. Cheers.

  17. Seriously. Our oldest is focused on getting video games all the time. It's his life.

  18. This is the first year my kids didn't really want toys for Christmas. They sure are growing up and I was a bit sad, but glad at the same time. I do find it harder to find gifts when they're older though. Luckily they gave me a list this year so it was a bit easier.

  19. I love Christmas at any age. But maybe we enjoy Christmas more when our kids are older?!

  20. As an older person who still gets presents from my parents and parents in law, I can concur that video games/clothes/pants etc are all excellent and well accepted presents :)

  21. Yes my kids love to get presents from santa. They wakeup early in that morning. Looks like your kids got the presents what they want from Santa.

  22. Every Christmas is different especially when you have growing kids. The likes varies and changes as soon as they grow. Yeah, social media has a big impact to them too.

  23. I can totally relate to this. My kids slept til 9:30 this year and then wandered downstairs very slowly. It was much more low key. And they too ate like 10 lbs of candy in like 3 days lol!

  26. This is so true. the girls love make up and boys are just into games.

  27. I have a mix of ages so it's still chaotic for us. Mine all still wake up early.

  28. My kids are all grown and the gifts they want are mostly those that are related to their careers or add-ons to things they already own. Powerbanks, dashcams for their cars, or camera lenses. I agree with the "less chaotic" part. So very true. But I do miss the happy squeals they did when they were little.

  29. Christmas shopping this year was tougher than years past because my kids are getting older. I agree though it's not as intense, it's way more chill.

  30. I hvae to wake my daughters up mulitiple times just to have them open their presents. They really enjoy the things we gift them always though. Thanks for sharing!

  32. I agree that older kids don’t require as much ‘work’ when it comes to Christmas in general. Some gifts they want tend to be more practical and often aren’t as expensive… sometimes, lol! And there’s also the possibility of them not being as enthusiastic about the holidays as they were as younger kids, but it seems they still love it so I wouldn’t worry about that just yet. I hope your Christmas this year is great as well!

  33. We were at this stage, but now there is a little one in the house again so I'm looking forward to him getting up Christmas morning.

  34. My oldest is 12 and that girl loves to sleep. I'm sure I'll be waking her up Christmas morning! My son will be up early though. He's 8.

  35. I just read a post recently with Al Roker sharing his experience as well with having older children for Christmas. Like you shared here the experience is different, but I can still see the joy is that they are all together like you and your kids. Merry Christmas!

  36. My daughters are older now as well, but they still enjoy a few toys, mostly the mini toys and such. Kids are all so different in what they want. I'm glad mine are not in to as many toys anymore either. They are both pretty easy to get gifts for.

  37. I absolutely agree about the video games! My kids really enjoy and love playing video games and thats what they want for Christmas

  38. My kids are still so small, so the chaos is still a little intense. But so long as we give them toys, they'd be happy all day.

  39. It's a different kind of fun and magical when they're older- but also AWH! Look at them, they're such small beans in these pics!

  40. I am glad that my son is 11. He appreciates what I get him. This year, I let him open his toys early so that he could play with them over the holiday break. Then the rest of the stuff, I put in this huge giant stocking that I got for him. I can't wait to see his reaction.

  41. I prefer when kids are older. It's definitely easier for us and a lot of fun!
