How To Survive College Finals

My son Tommy recently finished his finals for college. He...was a bit stressed.

He was mostly worried about his math final since we are not math people.

I have some tips on how to survive finals since we just went through them here. (Literally, they were all virtual and no, you couldn't cheat, because someone was watching from a camera.)

1. Try not to panic. Study and do the best you can. This is what I reminded my son. Remember what you've learned during the semester. If you're confused with a question, go back to it later.

2. Remind yourself of good things when finals are over. For example, I would remind Tommy of our Disney World trip in July. Focus on the good. Finish this final, go to Target. Finish this final, buy fries from Mcdonalds as an award.

3. Try not to wait for the last minute to complete finals. Some classes have a paper for finals. In one of Tommy's video classes, it was a commercial. Luckily he did not wait until the last minute. But if he had a paper to write, he probably would have. Granted, sometimes good work comes out of procrastination but at the same time, sometimes nonsense comes from it when you turn in something that will make the professor scratch their head.

4. If you're worried about the final, talk to your professor. There might be extra tutoring you can attend before you take the final.

5. Look, if all else fails, stuff your face with junk food. It's not the healthiest, but sometimes stuffing your face with carbs helps. Or if you prefer healthier stuff, get some kale. But I promise, it's not as fun.

Tommy is happy to be finished with his finals. He got As on all of them and is waiting for his math final. He took that one Monday, and he's hoping he passed. Good luck to everyone taking their finals!
