Ways To Help With Pfizer Shot 2 Side Effects

I got the second Pfizer shot on Friday with my son. I had heard that people felt a variety of side effects with the second shot. For the first one, I only felt a sore arm. But I noticed people saying that they had chills, fatigue, and other flu-like symptoms with the second. I wanted to try to avoid this so I did the following:

1. Took Tylenol beforehand. I mostly did this because I figured I'd have the sore arm again but I also heard this helped a lot of people keep the other symptoms from happening.

2. Drank a bunch of water. I downed two glasses before I received the shot. I know it's important to always be hydrated.

3. Ate a salad. I mean. I don't know if this really did anything, but I figured the extra greens would help. Maybe? (And I realized I'm wearing my body by junk food shirt in the above photo, so I'm extra amused.)

4. After the shot I made sure to move my arm. I had the shot in my left arm. I have some 3 pound weights, so I would lift those throughout the day. Yes it ached a bit, but it seemed to help because by the next day the soreness was gone. The first time I got the shot I barely moved the arm and the soreness seemed to last longer.

So did this help? Well, yes. The only symptom I felt was the sore arm and it wasn't as bad as the first time. I did feel a little tired the second day, but it might have also been because my cat woke me up in the dead of night racing around the house.

My son did not take the Tylenol beforehand and said around 4 AM he got the chills and a headache. He took a Tylenol after and felt much better. The symptoms did not return. It's interesting how some people have tons of side effects while others have none.

I'm not sure if these tips will help everyone, but it did seem to work for me.

Did you have any reactions to the Covid vaccines?

  3. My college kid had side effects and he is ultra healthy. So it is weird with the side effects.

  4. I've not had that one. I had the first does of the astrazeneca vaccine. The side effects were awful. I'm sure I can use these tips to help with the second dose when I have it.

  5. I followed the same protocol as you and didn't have much of a reaction to the second shot. My husband did the same, but had a fever and was exhausted the next day. I read that there may be a correlation with blood type and the type of reaction you have.

  7. So glad we're able to get the vaccine! I was so happy when I got scheduled & now all vaxxed. My husband and I only got really tired after ours, fortunately. He, however, had a super-sore arm for several days. Not too bad, right?!

  8. I hear the stronger your body fights infection, the stronger your reaction to the shot is. I guess it makes sense, your body is going to attack any foreign substance pretty hard.

  21. Glad you all got the vaccine. Some recommend holding off on the tylenol or advil until afterward, though I don't know that's really important. My mom, daughter and I all had nothing but a sore arm after both shots (Phizer, Moderna & Phizer). My wife felt flu-like symptoms for 24 hours after Moderna. Bottom line: the side effects are minimal and so much better than getting Covid-19, especially risking long-covid, even if the initial infection was mild.
