Different Thoughts I Have About My Kid Going To High School

Natalie starts High School on August 23rd and no,  I can't believe it. I have had all sorts of thoughts running through my head. They usually occur at like 3 AM.

Here are some of those thoughts:

How can she be old enough to be in high school?

I hope she doesn't do drugs.

What if someone offers her drugs?

I hope she doesn't vape.

What if someone offers her a vape?

Wasn't she just born?

What if she tries to skip class?

What if she's a scary driver when she learns to drive?

What if when she learns to drive she just drives off and doesn't come back?

Oh my gosh, math is going to get more difficult and I was already confused by fifth grade math.

What if she decides to date a bad influence? The people on Intervention usually say that they started using drugs by the person they dated in high school.

Should I make her get a job in high school?

What if upperclassmen are mean to her?

Why are spaghetti straps not allowed? It's just a shoulder. How is a shoulder going to corrupt anyone?

I hope she has a good high school experience and not a miserable one.

So. Yeah. Those are just some of what goes through my head at night. Or heck, sometimes during the day.

Let's hope she enjoys high school. I think she'll be okay.

Here's to making lots of positive memories.

  1. First of all I have had all these thoughts about both of my kids starting high school! Hopefully it will be a year of new discoveries about subjects she feels passionate about and it will be the beginning of a successful new chapter and adventure!

  3. My 4th child just started high school and I too have these kind of thoughts. My next oldest is in his last year of college and back then I was too busy with babies to even think.

  4. Wow that's a lot of questions! I don't know how you are getting any sleep! Hopefully she loves school and has a super successful year.

  5. That's one of the hard tasks for parents. To not worry too much. You'll get to imagine too many possibilities when they are away. Hehe

  6. Good luck to Natalie in high school. I have to say that I honestly never understood high school dress codes. As a female, I found them more distracting to my learning as I was constantly having to have my shirt, capris, and shorts measured by grown men instead of learning.

  7. I just think this is a kid who knows her own value. You've raised her right! I find it hard to believe she's in high school too. When did that happen?

  8. I wasn't ready for mine to start high school either and I'm not ready for them to start college next fall!

  12. Its crazy the amount of worry we have when our kids start high school. But thats when you are open and honest with them and have discussions before it happens so they have that little voice reminding them what you discussed and not going in with no knowledge of what could happen.. It helps prepare them!

  16. It's crazy how quick they grow up. I have a 5th and 7th grader now. It's always so hard to believe it when they enter a new school. High school is a huge deal too.

  18. I feel you! I have the same thoughts back then when my daughter was about to enter high school and next year she'll be in college already and all the more I have those same thoughts. All I can do is entrust her to God, good luck Natalie!

  19. I think that's entirely normal to have those thoughts. High school students are at the age when some of them want to experiment with new things, but I'm sure your daughter has a good head on her shoulders.

  20. It is funny how people ask about when things get easier with kids. However, there are so many things to worry about when kids get older. Things will be ok!

  29. That's a lot running through your head at night over this, and they're all valid concerns... but Natalie seems like a good kid and I think as long as you keep that wonderful relationship with her with open lines of communication and positive affirmations, things will be easier!

  30. As a teacher I do all I can to embrace my students and help make their school experience a good memory for them. I have four kids and I know that not everyone does that... Wishing her so much good luck!

  33. Oh that's scary! I have one in pre-school and one that will start pre-school next year and I already have anxiety about that!

  34. There are so many things to worry about for older kids. Younger kids are tough not being independent, but as they get older, parenting is just as hard.
