My son has autism and was never interested in going to Homecoming when he was in high school. I would always ask if he wanted to go, and he would decline. Homecoming to him would be too noisy and chaotic so I never pushed it.
My daughter Natalie is a Freshman and when I asked if she planned on going to Homecoming, she was basically like:
We went to Dillards and tried on some dresses. I suggest Dillards as a place to look for Homecoming dresses. Or JC Penney. We never made it to JC Penney though because she found this dress at Goodwill:
I also recommend shopping at Goodwill, especially if you have a daughter obsessed with vintage clothes like mine.
I haven't the slightest idea where the gloves came from. She probably had them in her accessory drawer. Her accessory drawer is full.
And then for the purse, we found this one on Amazon:
Shoes? Also Amazon. She did not want classic heels because we are clumsy in heels. We run into things.
Was Homecoming chaotic? Well, yes, the line to get into the school was long. But Natalie didn't care because she was with her friends.
Did she dance with a boy? No. But she stared at some and they stared back. Some told her she was "servin" which apparently in teen speak means she looked good? I'm asked why they didn't just say she looked good and I got this facial expression:
Did she dance with girls? Heck yes. She also slow danced with her friends.
Did she have fun?
Absolutely.
We got Gabbie's dress at JC Penney. I'm glad Natalie had fun!

ReplyDeleteThis post made me laugh, the gifs are spot on. I have two high school boys, my oldest a senior and youngest is a sophomore. I know all about the teenage attitudes. My boys are both so very different and like you, one wants to do things and the other not so much. I love the dress and purse she picked out though. Glad she had fun!
ReplyDeleteIf she got those clothes at goodwill it is worth shopping there.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! She looks gorgeous and so fashionable.
