When we were in NYC we knew we would be seeing a show. That show was called Come From Away. I had heard of it before but didn't know many details.
It's based on a true story. September 11th happens and all planes are grounded. This happens in a small town and the people there rally together to make the 7000 displaced passengers feel welcome. People open their homes, they donate food and supplies, and basically it's a wonderful feel good story.
Here's why you need to see it:
1. The songs are beautiful. I teared up during a few of them.
2. The characters are fantastic. You grow attached to them. You root for them.
3. There's a cod. I won't give away WHY there's a cod, but you'll be amused.
4. The fact that it's based on a true story will make it even more endearing. These small town folk opened their homes and hearts to the passengers with no hesitation.
5. They do give an update on what happened to all the people at the end. I loved this because I grew attached to many of these characters who, remember, are based on real people.
6. The actors are all friendly. Many will come outside after the show. We saw some and wanted to say hello but we were with a tour group and had to get to the bus.
7. The show is closing on October 2nd on Broadway. You can see it on Apple TV but it's even more spectacular live. If you're headed to NYC and want to see a show that won't break the bank, you can get tickets here. The theater the show is in is called the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre and it's breathtaking inside.
We absolutely loved the show. There is still a national tour going on so check and see if it's coming to your town. If so, you must see it. And let me know what you think about the cod.
I read the book it's based on. I still think it's weird that it was turned into a musical, but I know everyone loves it!
