Was Hocus Pocus 2 Any Good?

I loved Hocus Pocus. I was a little girl when it came out and thought it was fantastic. The witches! The costumes! Binx!

When I heard there would be a sequel on Disney +, I was beyond excited. The witches would return! The costumes would be magnificent. Okay, so there wouldn't be Binx, but still.

It was tough to wait for Natalie to return home from school when it premiered on September 30th. You see, I passed on my love of Hocus Pocus to my children. So much that Natalie was Sarah for Halloween last year.

She even had the magic spell book, who yes, is in Hocus Pocus 2.

So what did we think of the movie?

Well. First it shows the witches as children. They did amazing with their facial expressions and voices. Second, there is a black cat! It doesn't talk, but you know, he gave me Binx vibes. Was the plot all over the place? Well, yeah, a bit. But it was fun. I mean, you see Billy Butcherson again.

The witches do sing in the new movie. That is one of my fave scenes in Hocus Pocus. You do wonder how they knew the particular song they perform, but it's Bette Midler! She's incredible. (Which reminds me, I need to watch Beaches again and cry hysterically.)

Is the movie as good as the first? We didn't think so. But it wasn't an awful sequel like Miss Congeniality 2. It's a movie that'll make you smile and maybe even tear up. Some people say it's too cheesy, but hey, we like cheesy.

Oh and stay for the end credits! There's an implication that there will be a 3rd movie. And this time we're hoping for cameos. Weirdly, Dani, Max, and Vanessa weren't present. And it was odd that the movie took place in a different location. Go back to where it started. Have Dani be in the original house and her kid is into witches. I don't know. But bring them back!

If you're looking for an enjoyable family movie, this is it. It's perfect for Halloween. Natalie loved seeing Sarah again. I cracked up when Mary rode the Roombas. Tommy mentioned that he knew how they filmed a lot of the movie since he's taking a directing class in college.

Have you seen Hocus Pocus 2 yet?

  6. I agree, it wasn't as good as the first but it was okay. Ops, I didn't watch the credits. I did hear that there was a suggestion of a third movie and some thing there will be a spin off series with the girls in it.

  8. Watched it, loved it, felt a lot the same about what you've said. Those little girls DID do wonderful portrayals of the young sisters though, didn't they?! I even teared up too. "Broombas" was probably my favorite pun throughout the whole movie, lol!

  11. I'm in the minority when it comes to Hocus Pocus. I'm not a fan but I understand why people love it so much. A friend of mine said she teared up at the end of Hocus Pocus 2.
