I'm jealous.
My daughter got to go to New York City over Spring Break. Mind you, yes, I did get to go last summer, but she got to do more cool things there.
For example, she saw Pier 54. If you don't know why this is cool, well, it's where the Titanic survivors came through the steel arch. You can still see where it says White Star Line and Cunard (they eventually combined) in faded letters. She took this picture from the boat ride but she actually got to go closer. I am jealous.
She also got to go to Lexington and 52nd street.
That's the spot where Marilyn Monroe stood during the Seven Year Itch shoots where she wore that famous white dress and it blew up around her. Joe Dimaggio, her husband at the time, was not happy. Natalie was excited to stand on the exact spot even though there was a van behind her with a man who kept popping up looking baffled. History, dude. Learn it.
She went into the Plaza Hotel. We've only walked by it before. She saw the area where they could have tea. It's $140. But one day we hope to do it. Or maybe she can do it and I'll sit across from her and take pics of her enjoying? I don't know. Anyway, it was gorgeous inside. She was also dying because a scene from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was filmed there.
She went to FAO Schwartz and this cool Barbie box was there:
You can ice skate at Rockefeller Center. I've seen Tik Toks from New Yorkers who say they like to go there and watch the tourists wipe out. Natalie didn't get to ice skate but if she did, she'd have probably fallen down.
She did the behind the scenes tour of Radio City Music Hall and LOVED It. These were the original doors and Marilyn Monroe probably went through them because she was there in the 50s for a movie premiere. Natalie was freaking out. She's always had an old soul. If you like history, do the tour!
I recommend a movie & show tour and a guide will take you to spots where popular films and TV programs were shot. Natalie got to do this and naturally they went to the Ghostbusters firehouse:
They also saw the Friends building. Of course we all know it's shot on a sound stage in California, but outside shots were here.
They went to a ton of different spots and drove by Katz's Delicatessen, which is featured in When Harry Met Sally. She sent me this text and of course I knew what it was! One day we'll go.
They got to go to the Modern Art Museum aka MoMA. I'm sure you recognize this famous work:
She also loves Monet and was excited to see his paintings:
They went to Washington Square Park that has been in many films and TV shows. Natalie was mostly excited that it was on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and When Harry Met Sally.
And of course they show Broadway shows. They got to see 3. Her absolutely favorite was Some Like It Hot. It's at the Shubert Theatre and yes, it's based off the Marilyn Monroe film. Natalie was obsessed with the costumes and songs. She says go see it. They also saw Sweeney Todd (she also enjoyed that one. Gaten Matarazzo from Stranger Things is in it.) Plus Kimberly Akimbo, which she also thought was fabulous. She bought the necklace from the show.
Naturally they also went to Times Square.
They went to a bunch of other places as well. The Met, Little Italy, Chinatown, etc...she absolutely loves NYC. She says yes, sometimes there are too many people, but for the most part she enjoys the vibe. Plus she's getting to know the area so she thinks she could get around without getting lost. Maybe.
But she hopes to make it back one day.
She got to see a lot of cool things!
