How To Make A Prom Corsage

I am not crafty.

Gluing things together does not bring me joy.

Crocheting does not bring me joy.

I would go to military spouse meetings and the activities would usually be making something. My creations always came out...well...sad

And then people would look over and see what I made and they'd suck in their breath, stick a smile on their face and go, "Well. That's....nice.." in this strained voice.

Meanwhile, my daughter is over here making flowers out of pipe cleaners:

Growing up, she asked if I could make her a dress and I created her one out of a paper bag because it was seriously the best I could come up with.

I mean, she did like that paper bag. She danced around the house in it. But things like that are amusing when you're 5.

Anyhow, I am always amazed when she can create things. I always want to shriek like Lois in Family Guy: "Peetah, how are you doing this?"

The string thingies are so the flowers lit up.

She also has made a Lightening McQueen bouquet:

So for prom, she couldn't find the color corsage she wanted. She decided to work with what she had. And what she had was the following:

* A blue wooden flower from a bouquet she got from Lowe's. They sell wooden flowers for $19.95 so she has a bunch around her room.

*A blue mesh scrunchie that she cut to surround the wooden flower.

* Fake baby's breath that came in a bouquet she made from Michaels. (As you probably figured out, she loves flowers.)

She took everything above, got a hot glue gun, and made this. The butterflies came from the scrunchie.

Her boyfriend liked it. We bought a corsage wrist thingy from HEB for $3. Just go to any bouquet shop and they'll have one.

I am sure she'll continue to create beautiful things. I know she does want to decorate her graduation cap at some point. Her high school doesn't allow it for graduation (party poopers!) but she wanted to make one for photos.

Are you a crafty person?

I hope she does do a cap for pictures in her own way .... I love seeing them at graduations - I know most places dont allow it but I kinda root for the kids who do it anyways LOL Rebels at heart.

  2. I love her homemade corsage! The blue is so pretty and I wouldn't have even realized it was wooden at first glance. Great job!

  5. That corsage looks stunning, and the fact that she made it from stuff around the house makes it even more impressive. Total DIY queen!

  6. Yes! I'm somehow a crafty person but I really find it challenging to do crafts. Your daughter is such a creative lady, I so love the blue corsage she created!
