We got to see an actual Beatle over the weekend.
You know, The Beatles? Yes, they did break up, but before they did, they released so many incredible songs.
Paul McCartney sings some of those songs in his Got Back concert. We were thrilled when we saw he was coming to San Antonio.
My daughter Natalie always loves to dress up for different occasions. Of course she had the best outfit. And she had a vision of teased hair, but her hair refused to be teased. It was like, "no, girl," and she was like, "YES," and it was like, "nope."
She even had my mom attempt to get it teased since she was actually around when The Beatles were big, but her hair still said, "NOOOOOO."
Anyhow, the hair would NOT be teased, but it still looked cute:
Unlike my daughter, I rarely dress up unless I have to. I feel most comfy in jeans and a t-shirt so this is what I opted to wear. I got a lot of compliments on my shirt.
The concert was at the Alamodome, which can turn into a chaotic mess. Roads are closed up, there are cops everywhere...it's like a maze figuring it all out. So I suggest always going EARLY. It won't be as insane.
The doors opened at 6. We got there at like 4. We easily found a parking spot (but parking is $60! Gross!) and then we walked to the Rivercenter mall. It was only about a 20 minute walk.
We returned right when the doors open and holy crap, it's pretty tight getting in with thousands of other people. You get familiar with strangers really fast.
But then we found our seats and got personal space again:
My daughter is 18 and yes, she loves Paul. She's an old soul so she's always adored the classics. Ella Fitzgerald, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, classical music...
Paul did come out about 30 minutes late, but it's okay, because it's PAUL. We were concerned at first that perhaps he had a bad burrito or taco which is why he was delayed. It has happened to the best of us in Texas.
He sang so many fabulous songs:
Paul played the guitar, the ukelele, the piano....he's talented. And at one point, Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp came on the screens and signed one of his songs.
Oh, and Paul does read some of the signs. He spotted this one and did end up allowing them on stage:
I was impressed because again, Paul is 83 and he still has all this energy. When I'm 83 I'll probably be in my pajamas and reading. But Paul was singing, dancing, and playing instruments for THREE HOURS.
And it's a beautiful time when a room filled with strangers can sing in unison. The world is insane at the moment so this was healing.
If Paul is coming to your area, go! Even if you think you don't like his music. You probably will change your mind. I mean, it's PAUL MCCARTNEY.
He's headed to New Orleans next!

It was a fabulous time. Paul started late because there were still thousands of folks outside, waiting to get in, at start time.
ReplyDeleteThat was such a vivid recount. I could almost feel the buzz, smell the parking lot, and hear the crowd singing along with you. Your mix of personal details and concert storytelling made me smile, and now I’m tempted to plan a Paul McCartney pilgrimage of my own.
ReplyDeleteI love how you dressed for the concert. It sounded like an amazing concert and would love to have been there.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely was a chance of a lifetime! I took my 14 year old grand daughter and she was singing along with the rest of us! HE WAS AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you both had the most amazing time at the concert even with the lack of personal space in the queue and 20 minute walk. That parking fee was crazy!!! He's doing amazing for his age.
