"Just be careful and don't get robbed. Plus, don't die," I told my daughter before she left for the My Chemical Romance concert in San Antonio.
I wasn't going. I know some My Chemical Romance songs, but not enough to want to sit through a concert. Although, Natalie pointed out that Gerard Way is a theater kid, and always puts on a good show, so I probably would have enjoyed myself had I gone.
Natalie assured me would watch her purse and be sure she was not murdered.
This was her concert look:
And yes, this is a normal My Chemical Romance concert vibe. Natalie is always eager to dress to a theme. She did not get that from me. I'm content showing up to events in jeans and a t-shirt. I consider leaving my hair down "dressing up."
Natalie has different views:
She promised she'd keep me posted throughout the night so I had proof of life.
The Alamodome, the venue of the concert, can be a chaotic spot. Not to mentioned overpriced. $60 for parking! Highway robbery!
But.
Natalie's seat was magically upgraded. She had originally purchased a seat way in the back with a limited view. It was all she could afford.
Her new seat was closer to the stage. No obstructions.
She had arrived right when the doors opened, so she had time to walk around and collect goodies fans were passing out.
She took pics to pass the time:
The opening act was Mars Volta, and Natalie said they were fabulous.
And then the main event began.
Natalie said it was the best concert she has ever been to. There were fireworks. Theatrics.

Did you know Gerard Way was the writer of The Umbrealla Academy and wrote a version of DC's Doom Patrol? I feel like Natalie would appreciate that.
ReplyDeleteThis is my FAVOURITE band in the whole world! I've seen them four times now, most recently in Florence this July! The concert was absolutely phenomenal, and hearing The Black Parade album in its entirety from start to finish was literally one of the highlights of my existence LOL.
ReplyDeleteThe “don’t get robbed, plus don’t die” motherly disclaimer took me OUT! Meanwhile, your daughter said, “Let me LIVE my best life.” 😂😂 She put on her concert outfit, secured her upgraded seat, and collected freebies...And honestly, that looked like clearly divine intervention! ❤️ Sounds like she had an amazing night, mom. I think it was a win, win!
ReplyDeleteLOL, I had to laugh at your instructions before she left because that sounds exactly like something I would say! Natalie looked amazing and definitely understood the assignment with her concert outfit. What a wonderful surprise getting her seat upgraded too! It sounds like she had an incredible night, and I know you were relieved when that “I’m safe” text finally came through.
ReplyDeleteI love her style of dressing for events. That is a cool concert look for her.
ReplyDeleteOk. Why don't I know this band? I know that I am older but truly haven't heard of them. sounds like I need to have a listen! Your post slayed me!
ReplyDeleteI only know a couple of their songs as well, the ones that were most popular, because I've always been a country music person. But as a mom, I love your instructions! I tell my middle school students all the time: "Don't die on my watch, it's too much paperwork!"
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky upgrade from a limited-view seat to one closer to the stage! It sounds like Natalie had an amazing night with the fireworks, theatrics, and all the fan goodies.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like fun! This would be a nice show to see. That is neat that she was able to connect with some other fans.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Natalie got the full My Chemical Romance experience, especially with the fireworks and all the theatrics!
ReplyDeleteWoot! Woot! That must have been such an exciting night for Natalie! I love some of their songs, too, so we were actually hoping to catch their concert as well. Unfortunately, it sold out so fast! 😭 We were so bummed we didn’t get tickets!
ReplyDeletewow this feels like a throw back to high school! This would be so much fun!!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about the My Chemical Romance concert in San Antonio. There’s something special about seeing a favorite band live and experiencing that energy with fellow fans.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, Amber, you crack me up with your ridiculous, funny ways. I'm glad Natalie made it there and back and had a great time. Interesting name for a band. Initially, I thought it was an old toxic relationship. Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great story! Love the photos. I've never been to a concert in my entire life. But this one looks pretty fun.
ReplyDeleteOMG, $60 for parking is insane!!! How lucky was Natalie to get a free upgrade. I bet she was over the moon. It sounds like the show was a great success. Love the outfit!
ReplyDeleteI’ve never heard of that band before. However, for going out to places like that I think I would most likely get a phone case that allowed me to carry my drivers license, debit card, and small amount of cash. That way I wasn’t showcasing a purse for someone to try and grab.
