A Day at the Zoo

Tom and I took the kids to the zoo last week.

It was hot. Like 100 degrees hot.

And Natalie wanted to keep almost every animal we saw.

For instance, she loved these things:

“Can we have one?” she asked.

“Um. No,” I replied. I have enough trouble keeping up with the beings that live in the house as it is.

“Oooo. Can we have one of these?”

(Rare photo of Tommy! Most of the time he groans when I suggest taking a photo of him.)

“No. This belongs to the zoo.”

“I want one of these!”

“Me too, actually! But we can’t.” Meerkats are adorable. Remember the show Meerkat Manor? I think that’s what it was called. I can’t believe I was even invested in a show like that but I was. I remember when some died and I was like, “Oh no!”

There was a Merry Go Round that Natalie had to ride on. Tommy said no way.

When the ride was over Natalie was like, “Can we buy one of these?”

“Sure, if your Daddy was Tom Cruise.”

She found a statue of a turtle:

“His name is Ralph!” she said.

Look! We found the owl from Labyrinth.

My kids don’t appreciate Labyrinth. Tommy was bored when I showed it to them. Natalie was freaked out by the goblins and the bulge in David Bowie’s pants.(She'll appreciate it when she's older.)

She found another statue:

And we saw an elephant and her baby.

Plus another statue.

Despite the heat, we ended up having a great time. We’ll probably go again when it cools down.

I can almost bet that Natalie will want to take something else home.

  1. Well at least if you took a statue home you would not have to feed it ....

  2. I am disturbed by the bulge in David Bowies pants in Labrynth too!

  3. Ahh, always love taking the little ones to the zoo.
And.... It's HOT everywhere! I am usually not a person that sweats... but I sure have been.
Oh... too much info I suppose! LOL
    Have a great day!

  4. I'm with Natalie. I want to take home all the animals too. (And David Bowie.) xo L

  5. Looks like a great day! Especially since Tommy allowed a photo! :) Statues are easier to care for than live things...... Just something to think about for the next trip.

  6. Looks like a fun trip. Your daughter is too cute. Her personality seems like a trip. I'm sure she keeps you entertained :)

  7. We have a stuffed Meercat from the Washington Zoo and his name is Billy. Now whenever we see the meercats at the zoo, we call them Billy's, as in, Let's go see the Billy's. Other people tend to follow us because thney think that it's some new and interesting animal we are going to see:)

  8. When we go to the zoo when it's hot it seems like all the animals go into hiding....haven't been in a while, and it's probably for the best. Hannah is BEGGING me for a mouse or a hamster. Who knows what ideas she'd get into her head at the zoo!

  9. Could you imagine how much it would cost to feed the animals. You know, assuming she COULD have one? Yikes!

  10. is that the OKC zoo? looks like y'all had fun!

  11. Some of those statues would look good in your yard . . .

  12. Well, damn, now I'm going to have to rent that movie! ;)

Zoos are great! But in the heat, the "smells" are pretty "intense", ya know?

Natalie is starting to change and grow out of her baby face!

  13. Looks like a lot of fun, despite the intense heat! The pictures are great! :)

  14. Let Nat come to my house. I have a dog that shreds underwear she could take home with her.

  15. So fun!!! We're going SOON to the huge zoo in Nuremberg. Can't wait!!!
