Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Noisy Kids At Movies

I know I hit on this when I wrote how I saw Breaking Dawn Part 2.

It bugged me so much so I decided to mention it again on Things That Annoy Me Thursday.

Kids. Babies. In movie theaters. When it is not a children’s movie.

I don’t get it.

I remember when I went to see a SCARY movie (Paranormal Activity) and I was shocked when a family walked in. The kids didn’t look older than 5.

I suppose it’s not so bad if the kids are quiet throughout the movie. You want to give your kid nightmares, great. That’s on you. But if the kid starts running around and being noisy—you have to remove him or her. Sorry. A lot of parents don’t seem to comprehend this. They’ll either A) ignore the kid or B) just go “shhhh” and try to bribe Junior with some Milk Duds.

When I saw Breaking Dawn Part 2, a kid started wailing and the parents did nothing! The proper thing to do is to remove the kid. But no, they just let the kid whine and cry.

Seriously, if your kid isn’t going to be quiet, wait until the movie comes out on DVD.

Don’t annoy everyone around you.

And it is not cute if your kid goes dancing down the aisles over and over again. Make your child stay SEATED.

Signed, everyone at the movie theater.

  1. I agree with you on this one! It is even more irritating when teens/adults wont stop talking! I still haven't seen Breaking Dawn Part 2 but will be going very soon (hopefully). Have a great day!

  3. I know it is tough to find a sitter, but if you want to see a movie so bad then find a sitter. That is what I do. Or wait until it is on dvd like you mentioned.

  5. THANK YOU! I completely agree. It always amazes/annoys me when people bring their young children to adult movies.

  6. AMEN!! It's just completely inconsiderate of those around you not to remove your crying/whining kid.

  7. Next time stand up and yell at them. I'm sure the rest of the theater will cheer you on.

  8. Yes girl that is the worst! We never go to the movies because Im not going to torture others with my screaming kiddos.. I would hope others would do the same. Also, the adults that have no respect for people and have full on convos through the whole movie talking like they are at home on their couch.. people I want to punch in the throat!

  9. I don't get people taking kids to movies that are not children's movies. It's idiotic.

  10. I have never understood that. Parent your children, people. And one of the first rules of parenting? Don't take your young children to see movies that aren't age appropriate.

  11. I agree with Joe, something needs to be said to the parents or a theater employee. I remember going to see Lady Sings the Blues, and during a very moving part of the film, a row of young teens started laughing and talking out loud. My cousin, normally very calm, was so mad she stood up and said loudly, "You girls be quiet!" and went on to say that we had paid good money to see the film, not to listen to them talk. The whole crowd started clapping and cheering. The girls didn't say another word til the movie was over. I'm thinking they had those parents that let them play and run all through the theater when they were little...

  12. Why would you take a child to a scary movie?! I can't watch them and I haven't been a child for quite a while now. Kids here don't go to the movies I want to see, thank goodness.

  13. Oh God, this is a pet peeve of mine. People being rude and inconsiderate at movies is why I took an almost three year break from seeing movies in theaters. We recently started going to the movies again (without the kid!), and I am already considering another hiatus. We went to see the new James Bond movie, and what do you know? In walks parents with their toddler and newborn. Of course the kids cried and carried on the whole time. People's sense of entitlement amazes me sometimes.

  14. I had a friend try to convince me to take by baby to the movies just last week (she just turned 2 months this week). I refuse to take her to the theater and risk her waking up, even if it is during her nap time) because i do NOT want to be one of those people. I also don't want to have to go outside to calm her down and miss the movie i paid for.

  15. Small town movie theaters have the benefit of knowing families through generations and can threaten unruly children with telling their parents to keep the kids home. It's harder at the complex and folks know they can get away with it. I'm one of those bad people that actually tells the people to remove the whining/crying baby -- and, yes, the masses applaud and agree. BUT, why the h--- can't they speak up, on occasion? If as a community, you refused to allow it to happen, the arrogant selfish people would stay home until they could figure out a way to see a movie without the child (and BABY, in some instances.) [off soapbox ditto]
