Are You A Slacker Mom?

Hmmm....

It turns out I’m a Slacker Mom.

According to this snippet I found in Redbook magazine, that is. It’s all in good fun, mind you.

I do everything listed. Is that bad?

Let’s go over the things that are mentioned:

Dutch: Yup, we’ve had Dutch before. It’s rare though, as I love to eat and my stomach seems to go off every two hours.

meTunes: Definitely. There is no way I put on children’s music in my car. I get enough of the awful music from Nick, Jr. I’m not about to put it on when I run errands.

Cupfakes: I do this on the health of my children’s classmates. I wouldn’t want to accidentally poison anyone. I’m not the greatest cook. So to be safe, I always buy store brought products and hope there isn’t one of those “anal” parents in the class who spout on about health and blah blah blah, and how everyone should bring in carrots and blah blah blah. Screw carrots. Who wants to eat carrots during a special occasion?

Wardrobe Momfunction: I do get dressed when I drop Natalie off at preschool (Tommy takes the bus) but there have been days when I’ve forgotten to brush my hair. I don’t know how this happens. Probably because I’m not a morning person so the only thing my brain can remember is to do is get dressed (which I’m thankful for.) My hair is completely forgotten. Once when I did brush my hair another parent was like, “Oh, your hair looks different, did you do something with it?” I replied, “Yes. It’s brushed.”

Swathing: Er…well, sometimes after swim lessons I’m like, “No bath today! Survivor is coming on in a bit. You guys were submerged in water, that’s enough.”

So. Are you a Slacker Mom too?

  2. I am rolling on the floor. I'm laughing because it's not me. Kind of hard to explain. I would love TO BE her but myself won't let myself. Wonderful post. Can't wait to follow and read more.

  3. I'm such a slacker, I don't bother messing up on the icing on the store-bought cupcakes. I embrace their store-boughtness! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  4. I slack sometimes yes and it mostly because i can - my son won't eat anything that has to be cooked. So I am the Microwave Maven. I nuke everything.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Oh yeah. Except we call it Linner.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Definitely to most of those. Although I consider it more like survival than slacking.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Popping over from Shell's blog. Love your humor and definitely folling and going into my favorites. (LoL)

    ReplyDelete
  8. lol I agree with Lady Mama!! I would seriously go crazy without slacking sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I thought in this day and age, schools request "cupfakes" instead of home made!

I particularly like "dunch". I might just use that!

    ReplyDelete
  10. LOL...my mom didn't even bother with cupfakes. She'd give me a bag of fun sized Kit-Kats and would say, "have a great day at school, jellybean."

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm totally a slacker mom...especially with the music thing.
And while my mom doesn't fit on any of it, well, hardly at all, she did say when I went to camp, if I did both swim times, I was good on the whole bath thing.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Crap! I do all of it too but I am certainly not ashamed. "Slacker Moms" unite!

    ReplyDelete
  13. there have been days when I've been a slacker mom. lol You do what you have to just to get through the day!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Never been a slacker mom but I had slacker Dad DIALED IN when I spent my year as a stay at home Dad.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Of course I am, I do try to get dressed but sometimes it just doesn't happen. Have a great day, I have to go checkout your post now.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I do all of these! I don't see what's wrong with it. LOL

Though, we HAVE to get store-bought treats for my kids' schools- not allowed anything that isn't pre-packaged. Thank God. It gives me an excuse to be a slacker.

Thanks for guesting posting for me.

  17. i think i could write the article on being a slacker mom.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Guess I'm a slacker mom then , too!

And I LOL'd when I read about the part when the parent asked if you did something different with your hair after you brushed it that morning. hehe. I've also been there. Ok, no one asked me point blank, but I KNOW they were thinking it!

  19. Guilty, guilty and GUILTY! I've done them all especially skipping bath time if it interferes with my television guilty pleasures (like America Idol)...and I've NEVER played kids music in my house or car. Just cannot do it. I'm afraid to...it might the thing that pushes me over the ever narrowing ledge. ;) Found you through Shell's blog. I'm a follower now!

  20. Definitely have done all, except my kids aren't in preschool or school yet...but there are lots of days I don't even get out of my pjs. Oh and if she's had any water on her body...that counts! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not a mom, but I am a nanny 10 hours a day or more, and I think I have done all of those too!! I frequently forget to brush my hair!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm stopping by from Shells. Thanks for the laughs. I am a total slacker mom, some days you just have to be to survive!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Uh, yeah. That funny little article may or may not have been written about my life. The prob is, I am a type A slacker. Wait, is that an oxy-moron?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Proud of it! Haha, I don't actually have to do school drop offs yet and luckily my son doesn't like the kiddie music unless it's on tv, he'd rather listen to what we listen too.

Came to see you from Shell (and followed) anyone who is sacracstic and loves The Office is someone I need to read.

    ReplyDelete
  25. No kids yet, but I'm sure I will cupfake. No need to waste all that time. We hosted Easter dinner last Sunday and I totally bought dessert at the store instead of making something. I'm a lazy cook.

    ReplyDelete
  26. No kids yet, but I am learning more and more everyday there are SO much more important things to worry about. I'm guessing I will be. I mean I/they shower and brush my teeth, what more do you want???

    ReplyDelete
  27. well... i'm not a mom yet, but after reading that.. i know i so will be a slacker mom!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. So funny! I am totally a slacker mom! It is my DAMN Car and I should be able to listen to whatever I want to listen too! Thanks for sharing- I was seriously laughing out loud at work when I read that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yep, I'm a big-time slacker mom! I am especially guilty of driving my son (the 1 1/2 blocks) to school in my jammies. I mean, what do these perfect moms do so they can get their kids ready AND look beautiful?! I keep telling myself once I lose weight, I'll want to be done up. But, that's just a big, fat lie!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ha Ha! Love this! And I am guilty as charged. With the exception of driving my kid to school in my jammies...but that's just because my kid doesn't go to school yet. I've had plenty of other wardrobe momfunctions!

    ReplyDelete
  31. i object to the term slacker mom- how about "normal mom"? :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. cupfakes

    heeee

    awesome

I am sure I have done them ALL

    that is all

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ha ha, we hardly ever have time to give the kids a bath on Survivor night either. There was a bad stretch where one of them would always manage to poop in the bathtub, right around 7:55. So then by the time we got it all cleaned up, redid the bath, and got them to bed, we missed half the show. We finally decided it wasn't worth the risk.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is too funny! I really enjoyed reading this, especially the wardrobe momfunction. That is me all the way! The metunes as well is really relatable!

    ReplyDelete
  35. crap - i think they must've gotten the title wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  36. LOL! I'm a slacker for sure! (and my daughter's only 9 months!) Found you from Shell's blog... I'm a new follower :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. These were HILARIOUS!! I loved them all. So funny & creative. I'm a big fan of buying cupfakes. Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Figured something out. All of these are perfectly acceptable things.....for a dad to do. And I've done them (well, the cupcakes and my stomach had an unfortunate incident)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Total total slacker!!! (Found you from Shell) And there is nothing slackish about listening to your own music. They make MP3 players for parents not the kids. Though, they do sing twice as loud when they use them.

And out here in CA the rule is store bought items only for class parties. Fine with me. I don't want to mess with baking and not have the benefit of hoarding it to myself. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  40. LOL, I don't have kids of my own just yet, but I foresee that when I do, I'll probably be guilty of some of these things, too. Cupfakes is awesome :p

Great guest post over at Shell's place!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Absolutely a Slacker Mom here, and damn proud of it!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh and I'm with Cheryl D on not even bothering to mess up the frosting...sometimes I even leave the price sticker on the plastic thing they come in.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Just found you from Shell and loving you all ready! I am a slacker mom, no doubt about that!

    ReplyDelete
  44. YAAAY!!! I am not alone!! I agree...the term should be "survival", not slacker. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Mothers be busy. Something tells me you are not alone in the slacking department.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hah! This is hysterical. Sometimes, there are more important things to do than tend to the kids. You know, like eat bon bons and watch soap operas (Crap, they're getting rid of all of those-- now what??)

    Visiting from Shell!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm definitely guilty of Wardrobe Momfunction (especially the hair) occasionally but Swathing? Majorly guilty as charged.

    ReplyDelete
  48. We've had Linner, the kids think thats awesome. And we've definitely skipped baths, swim lessons or not. lol

But I do make my own cupcakes! =)

    ReplyDelete
  49. TOTALLY a slacker Mom here. Not afraid to own that either. Just yesterday i was cleaning the kids room and picked up this CD cover, and inside was a whole BOOKLET of games to play with your toddlers. Won't lie, I read in stunned silence at all these ideas. And my only thought was....wow, I guess some Moms are WAY cooler than I am.

And is it so wrong to just detest bath time? 'Cause I totally do.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I will definitely be a slacker mom when my times comes. I will never listen to kiddy music in my car. Maybe I'll skip over the Eminem when the kid is with me, otherwise my car my music

    ReplyDelete
  51. Absolutely, positively! We all are!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yup, count me in. I am a Slacker Mom and darn proud of it!

    ReplyDelete
  53. meTunes all the way... in fact Bon Jovi is now one of my children's favorites. I consider that a parenting success story!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well, if listening to metunes, my own music, in the minivan is slacking, then I'm a slacker. And they boys love it -- they go quiet and dreamy instantly and we're all at peace. Often I hope they don't understand all the words, but hey...we're at peace.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I listen to meTunes and have done my fair share of swathing- she's clean enough :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I found your blog through Shell's BFF. You are too funny! Everyone in the room wants to know why I keep laughing out loud!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Dutch happens all too often at our house (and usually it consists of pizza!).

    Total slacker mom here!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hell, I grew out my short hair just so I could throw it in a ponytail instead of brushing it! And in my opinion, it takes MORE effort to get in the car, drive to the cupcake place and spend god-only-knows how much on cupcakes for the class than it does to open a box of Duncan Hines and a container of frosting!

I prefer to think of myself not as a SLACKER mom, but as a BALANCED mom...that's what I tell myself, anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  59. How else would I survive with six kids....I'm mostly guilty of not cooking dinner lately and letting them indulge in cereal or waffles.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You are a genius! I say, "I don't make things. I make things happen." Like cupfakes. LOVE IT!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm your newest follower! Found your guest post over at Shell's blog! I am definitely a slacker mom. I'm embarrassed to say we do the Dutch maybe once a week!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hello, my name is Jane and I am a Slacker Mom. Yep, every. single. one! Dang, and I thought I was so "on top of" this whole Mom gig.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Lol, I do these things and more. Like keeping my kids up a little too late on the weekends, with the excuse that it's so they can see their daddy (he works late often), but it's really so I don't have to do baths and bedtime all by myself. And how about the kids getting up on their own for Saturday morning cartoons, so I can sleep in, and then breakfast ends up so late that it's lunchfast (I know it should be brunch but I just like the sound of it).

    ReplyDelete
  64. Swathing... ha ha ha ha ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yep to most of those... especially the swathing. My kids hygiene definitely leaves something to be desired... due to my slacker-ishness.

    ReplyDelete
  66. My kids don't even have to be submerged in water to declare a no bath day. In fact, it's more likely that you'll find us declaring, "Hey - it's about time you guys had a bath. How long's it been, anyway?"

    ReplyDelete
  67. Due to my lack of children, I cannot be a slacker mom; hence, it is shortened to just "slacker" in general....ok, so maybe I do a lot of things, but there are some things I kind of slack off on, but I really am wayyy too embarrassed to admit them.

    http://perpetuallyashley.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  68. I've done all of those...except that I like to listen to NPR instead of music. My son sometimes talks along with the news anchors.

    ReplyDelete
  69. This is to damn funny! I love them all! I haven't done them all, but I know that I would. I probably won't fluff up the icing I would just take them in the store box!!! And the only reason I look like I do when I drop my kids off at the babysitter is because I am on my way to work. If they go when I'm off work, I look like I just rolled out of bed AND I have to get out of the car!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. hrm. . . maybe 50% slacker! Too funny.
