Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Cooking

I set the lid on the counter.

I guess it was too close to the edge, because seconds later...

CRASH!

That would be pieces of glass. ALL OVER THE KITCHEN.

"This is why I HATE COOKING!" I shouted.

"Are you okay? What was that?" Tom answered from the living room.

"I hate cooking!" I repeated, stomping over to grab the broom.

Tom came in the kitchen. He saw the spray of glass. "If you didn't like the lid, you could have told me. I'd have bought you a new one."

"Ha. Did I tell you that I HATE COOKING?"

Tom took the broom. "Chill. This might be a sign that we need to go out to eat."

He's always hoping we can go out to eat. Some women might be insulted by this. "He doesn't like my cooking!" but I know my meals aren't always the greatest.

"We're not going out to eat. I have chicken marinating."

"Aw." Tom helped me clean up. When we were done he was all, "You SURE you don't want to go out? I can see you're upset.."

"NO!"

If it didn't cost money, of course I'd rather go out, but we have these things called bills.

So I'll continue to cook and break (and burn) things and curse about it.

It's just what I do.

  2. That sucks and I completely understand. I break things in my kitchen all the time, or set plastic/rubber things on the still hot burners. The worst is when you are still finding pieces of glass months after something broke.

  3. How nice of Tom to offer! I imagine that if you ever won the lottery you would just hire a cook, can't say I blame you :)

  4. honestly, I hate cooking, too. But its mainly because my kids (and sometimes husband) are so damn picky that they are not willing to try anything new. So I am SO sick of cooking spaghetti, tacos, and grilled chicken with mashed potatoes every week. And that's only 3 meals! Goodness knows what we do the other 4 nights.

  5. Add me to the 'I hate cooking' camp too. I often wonder aloud, "Why do these kids need dinner every single night?"

It was sweet of your husband to offer to take you out, though.

  6. I'm a terrible cook!
Cassidy has to do all of the real cooking. Otherwise we get by on fresh Trader Joe's meals - cold cuts, cheese, fruits, vegetables, hummus, bread, whatever!
I cook eggs and mac and cheese, though.

  7. sorry to hear about your frustration. i find dinner prep to be the most annoying part of the day. the kids all want different things and complain a lot. sometimes i just ask my husband to cook because otherwise they'd be eating mac n' cheese every night. sometimes my husband will ask to go out but that throws off our whole night.

  8. I love to cook, but am probably the messiest cook around. I think my husband cringes sometimes when I am cooking because he knows he is going to come home to find the kitchen a complete disaster. I usually try to clean up before he gets home, but doesn't always happen. It is so bad that last night when we were cooking together he told me to measure something in smaller increments because in his words "You always spill powdery substances all over the kitchen and spend the next two months cleaning it out of every crack and crevice" Yup... he loves me.

  9. I hate cooking too. Since dad moved in I think he expects me to cook, but on nights the girls are with their dad I do not cook. I ate bagel bites

  10. I love going out to eat. I definitely do not have your willpower!

  11. I love cooking BUT I hate breaking things. Especially glass in the kitchen. I would've given in to going out!

  12. I love cooking! But I am clumsy in the kitchen and break a lot of things. Always a bummer but look on the bright side, you have someone offering to help clean the mess. ;) My husband would usually just look at me and say "be careful next time". Pfft.

  13. I love to cook! I hate to clean up afterwards though. We have a deal in my house. On the nights Ken is home, he cooks dinner and I clean up. On the nights he's not home, I cook dinner and I clean up. Hey!! Waits!! That's a bum deal!

  14. I used to hate to cook. I could barely boil water to make a hotdog. After a lot of practice I'm actually enjoying it more. The cleaning part sucks though.

  15. I like cooking, but I recently was baking chicken in pyrex and had it explode all over the kitchen when I took it out of the oven. While I was still holding it. Ugh. I'm so thankful that I wasn't hurt but the mess was a nightmare. Never again with pyrex.

  16. Dont feel bad one time I made an entire meal and it looked great, pulled it out of the oven and dropped the dish I sat in my mess and cried.

  17. I've had similar kitchen tragedies--once I dropped a bowl of cut up strawberries and sauce that I'd made for strawberries shortcake and they spattered over EVERYTHING in the kitchen. That was a very sad day, as you can imagine.

  18. At least it wasn't the glass dish that you were cooking dinner in, that broke and rendered the dinner completely inedible. Yup, I did that once or *shakes head* twice!

  19. I don't mind cooking but I only cook EASY shit. Anything over 5 ingredients or 5 steps... NOPE!

  20. I broke a wine glass yesterday...it was tragic. RIP to my favorite Crat & Barrel wine glass.

  21. I don't cook. Period. If it were left up to me we'd have cereal or popcorn for dinner. That's why I married my husband; he LOVES to cook.

  22. Pizza night! I know what you mean, though. Eating out can be so pricey. Some fast casual places can be cheaper than dining in, though, especially if there's just two of you. I say stock up on coupons and go for it! The crock pot also saves me a lot--spaghetti, cream of mushroom soup chicken, etc...

  23. I like cooking but I don't like to bake. I burn a lot when I bake. And sometimes I burn pots too...I even wrote a post on how to clean those pots because it happens quite often!

  24. I don't mind cooking -- mind you, I am not Julia Child or anything. I keep it extremely simple.

but oh my - I am a klutz. so bad.

  25. I keep burning myself, but my husband doesn't seem to get the hint. ;)
The kitchen and I just don't get along.

  26. Hugs!! I love cooking, but I didn't always. You tend to like things more when you get better at them. Do you have a crockpot?? So easy to put things in it in the morning (even frozen!) and let it do all the hard work for you! Let me know if you want/need some help! :D

  27. Ugh, I hate that it costs money to eat out too because uhm..cooking SUCKS. I broke a plate a couple weeks ago and it made me want to break ten more. But then I'd have to clean the mess up. GRRRRRR!

  28. I like cooking if I have something planned - I hate it when it is time to start dinner and I don't have a clue!!!
