Things That Annoy Me Thursday: More Rude Moviegoers

The guy kept talking.

After an action scene, he'd be all, "Wtlkjsl afljs dkljafs." I can't type the exact words, because he was speaking Spanish.

I think he was TRANSLATING for the woman with him.

This wouldn't be annoying in other circumstances, but we were in a movie theater. I don't want to hear chatter when I'm watching a movie. Especially chatter I don't understand.

A part of me wanted to hiss, "No bueno!" towards the guy, because he KEPT DOING IT. But I was in Texas, and people in Texas have guns, so I kept quiet and simply fumed in my seat.

Tom and I brought Tommy to see the new Transformers movie. And I know Transformers can be a kid obsession, but we were surprised to see small kids: as in two and three year olds. If the kid can be quiet and the parents don't mind the occasional f-bomb, then I don't care. But I find when kids are seeing adult movies, they can get irritating. These kids would go, "What's happening?" when there wasn't an action scene.

So I had Diego rambling beside me at these moments, plus children wanting to know where Optimus Prime went.

I just don't comprehend why people are so RUDE at movie theaters these days.

This wasn't it though.

No, a guy in the front row kept standing up and walking over to the corner of the room. This made me nervous. People have GUNS in Texas, and I wasn't sure what he was doing. I think his feet probably just hurt, because he did this several times, which was distracting. The movie is nearly three hours long, so I get that you might need to stretch, but multiple times is not cool. If you know your feet will hurt, sit in the back so it'll be less distracting.

Plus there was a couple in front of us who kept checking their phones. Even if you do this for a second, the bright light is irritating. Step out. Please.

Despite all of this, the movie wasn't horrible. I'm not a huge fan of action movies, because I always think, "What a mess!" when things explode and break. Plus the movie was long. I kept thinking the action sequence would be the last, but then more Transformer drama happened and there would be another one.

Naturally, my boys enjoyed it.

Would I see it again? Probably not.

Plus, I'm always wary about going to movie theaters, because, as I mentioned many, many times in past entries, people are rude and think the "Put your phone away" and "no talking" at the beginning of a movie does not apply to them.

Let's remember manners when leaving the house. Please?

**Here's something NOT annoying: I'm guest posting over at Eli (aka Coach Daddy's) blog here!**

  1. Tiny kids at a three hour movie?? And that worked? Sheesh. I can't imagine.
I also can't imagine translating an entire movie. Wow.

  2. Jeez why take kids that small to a movie that long? If they wanted the kids to see it they could have waited till it came out on DVD or Netflix or something... And talkers... annoy me to no end.

  3. You've been having bad movie luck lately!! We don't go to the theater much because it's so expensive. Our biggest movie problem is Henry telling everyone what's going to happen because he's already seen the movie. We've had to teach him that people really don't appreciate that kind of thing!

  4. Movies cost an arm and a leg these days and it sucks that we can't even enjoy them because of rude people! Did I tell you about my TFIOS experience last month? My husband had a crazy experience seeing Spiderman 2 a while back, as well. He's pretty much ruled out going to movies. I may hold off myself...at least until Into the Woods comes out. Or The Last Five Years....

  5. Gee it sounds like you really had a terrible movie theater experience!! I would have been so angry ... nothing is worse than people talking in movies... and the thought of someone with a gun?? Not great.
One of my worst is when people put their feet on the back of my chair if they are behind me.... I want to scream, "Wtlkjsl afljs dkljafs" to them in every possible language!!

  6. Movies cost so much that a good experience should be required. And that includes no ridiculous translating or children. Geez!

  7. That would be completely irritating. It would only have been worse if they had been kicking your seat, too! I've never seen a transformers movie but I went on the ride at Universal Studios and it's pretty awesome.

  9. I hate going to the movies and never go. Now I have more reasons not to go! :)

  10. That is a bummer. I mean someone should not be interpreting in that type of situation. It has nothing to do with access to enjoying the film either. There are other way that the both of them could have gone about it attaining equal access. ALSO just a heads up, you probably could have gotten your money back. A lot of people don't know this, but if you leave a movie early because of something like this- you can most likely get your money back form the box office.

  11. my husband took my kids to the lego movie, and in the row in front of them, a kid threw up and his mom didn't even rush him out of the theater! they stayed for like another 15 minutes or something!

  12. I rarely go to the movies these days--have you noticed the previews have gotten REALLY loud? The movie is normal but the volume of the previews at our theater is almost to a "wear earplugs to protect your eardrums" level. I'm wondering if it's just ours. I also wonder if maybe the rudeness comes from the fact that TV and movies are such an individual experience now. People don't gather around the TV like they used to, so they don't know how to be respectful when they're watching entertainment in a group setting.

  13. People who check their phones in the movies are so annoying. It's like, REALLY... you can't go 2 hours w/o looking at your phone? Get up and go to the restroom if you have to look at it.

  14. I'm one of those who would just as soon watch a movie at home after it comes out on DVD - no distractions and much more comfortable!!

  15. I am all in to having movies at home. It is more fun and we can pause it when needed :)

  16. I have found people are just rude now. It is like common decency is gone, and people feel entitled to do whatever they want whenever they want. I get annoyed at movie theaters as well. I am okay with waiting until the movie is out on dvd just so I can enjoy it in my own home.

  17. The husband and I have dealt with so many rude moviegoers! We’ve decided to only go to the theatre on the first or second weekend that a movie is out (and only in the evening). It seems like the people there early in the movie runs are actually more interested in what’s going on and less likely to be on their phones or doing other annoying behavior. Though that guy getting up over and over would make me nervous too. I’d be checking for gun bulges every single time.

  18. That sounds like an incredibly annoying movie experience. I'm amazed by how rude people are anymore. (When watching movie explosions, I, also, think about the mess. LOL.)

  19. I never take my kids to movies and the hubs and I only go to the luxury theaters for this exact reason.
    It's too expensive anyway.
Sorry you had another bad experience.

  20. Reason number 4828194829 why we wait for movies to come out on dvd. It is just too expensive these days to have someone ruin the experience for you.

  21. Ugh - why go to a movie where you are going to be translating the whole time. Watch it at home!

  22. I was shocked at how many people brought little, little kids to Transformers. It's so not appropriate for the preschool and under set.

Someone took issue with my opinion and said it's not up to us to judge.

Actually, sometimes people make sucky parenting decisions. I don't care who your 2 year old is, this was not the movie for them.

Movies are so expensive these days- it's really frustrating to go and be surrounded by people who make it hard to enjoy the movie.

  23. I don't know how people can bring small kids to movies but what really blows my mind is people that go to the movies and are preoccupied with something else. Not only does talking during the film piss me off, but when someone is a row in front of me and opens up their cell phone I'm instantly distracted by the light. Get out! Shut up! And see ya later!
