My First Rodeo

I wrote about how I went to my first rodeo.

How a lot of people were dressed like they were going to a club. (Seriously. Short skirts. Tiny shirts. HEELS?!)

How no one wanted to SIT. There were constantly people wandering around.

I also couldn't get good photos as I don't know what I'm doing with my camera.

There was an injury. A guy fell off his horse. He was knocked out and had to be carried away.

"Doesn't this remind you of the book The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks?" I asked Tom.

"Um. No?" he answered because he doesn't like to read.

It was interesting. And I figured out one reason why people moved around often: there were refreshments. I'd have bought some nachos, but I didn't want to pay the crazy price for them.

In between the rodeo segments, there are shows. This family of small girls came out and did tricks on horses.

Who decides, "I want to learn to hang off my horse in a dangerous way?"

Natalie liked their outfits.

At one point, they had all the children come out and try to pull a ribbon off a tiny cow. Or a bull. Something small. Natalie and her cousin went. Tommy went, "No way," because, you know, too many people.

Natalie and her cousin were out there somewhere:

It occurred to me after they had gone, that they could possibly be crushed.

They weren't. And they didn't get the ribbon.

In the end, it was fun. I was cold though. It was an indoor rodeo, and they blasted the AC. But I get cold easily. It's why I wear jeans in 90 degree temperatures because I worry that a store or a restaurant will have their AC on full blast.

We went to the Mesquite Pro Rodeo, which is around the Dallas area.

I'm amazed at the things these people do. I'd worry I'd break my neck.

I'd go to another rodeo.

Have you been to one?

  2. I have never been to a rodeo, but I'd be interested in going. I think I'd be worries about seeing the riders getting bucked off and trampled though.

  3. I've been to a few. Little town ones, and the big Houston one. I prefer the smaller ones. My favorite is the mutton busting. Where the little kids ride on sheep like a bull - see how long they can hold on! So much fun!!! I've never seen trick riders, they look like so much fun!

  5. I did go to one once! In Texas. Oh! There was one in Jersey once too, somehow. It was wild, but I generally don't love crowds unless it's for something extremely, extremely cool.

  7. Growing up in Houston...yeah, I have. Their rodeo is a BIG deal. It lasts for several weeks and there are big name music performances every night. And back in the day, the tickets were cheap! We often went several times during the season just to see the music performances.

I'd love to go back to catch another one...one of these days.

  8. I haven't been but like I said in your last rodeo post, I WANNA GO!!! You didn't mention anything about the smell- does that mean it doesn't smell or that it's expected and you don't notice it? I would be scared of being crushed too
