Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Christmas Already?!

I'm sorry, but it's too early for this in stores. This is the base commissary. All the other stores I frequent are also decked out for Christmas.

I can't get on board with Christmas before Thanksgiving. I just can't.

I should not already be hearing Christmas carols in stores. I like them, but by the time December rolls around, I'm going to be completely irritated by them.

I wish stores would be like, "You know what? We're going to wait until after Thanksgiving," but they claim that early Christmas crap is what the CUSTOMER wants. Really, they just want more money.

I love Christmas, don't get me wrong, but I cannot get excited about it until after I've had my giant turkey dinner. Then I'm like, "It's time," and I go into the garage and pull out the tree. I'm usually attacked by various boxes as I do this, because our garage is a very scary place indeed.

I feel like some of the Christmas spirit is lost because it starts so soon. I'm not as excited to see decorations because they've been up since November. It stinks.

I know some people love starting Christmas early and I'm happy for them.

But for me?

I'll be excited for Christmas AFTER Thanksgiving.

  1. Christmas does not exist to me until I've had my pumpkin pie. And not just pumpkin pie anywhere. It's pumpkin pie that I've made for Thanksgiving dinner, lol! I went to pick up my wedding ring after Halloween and realized the entire mall was done up in decorations and the jeweler was already playing Christmas music. So annoying.

  2. I agree, it's too early for Christmas. We don't have thanksgiving here in UK (obviously) but its still too early for Christmas! It's everywhere I go and I'm already slightly fed up of it.

    1. Yup. I'll be ready for it after Thanksgiving. I do love Christmas, but not quite so soon.

  3. For me, November is like the suspense month. I'm focused on Thanksgiving but get more and more excited for Christmas as the month continues. I want to decorate but don't. I want to buy things but don't. So by the day after Thanksgiving I'm so excited! The weekend after T-Day is a little nutty in my house because with all then pent up excitement I got a little Christmas crazy!

    1. I admit, I do buy stuff, but only because I find if I wait until December, a lot of the good stuff is already gone. :/

  4. Nice to see someone who celebrates Christmas and gets annoyed by the pre-Thanksgiving Christmas hype. :)

  5. I'm so torn about this. I hate Christmas Carols until After Thanksgiving. I love having the Christmas gift sets out in the stores. I like being able to start Christmas crafts, but am not ready to see trees and stuff.

    1. I don't mind seeing some gift sets out now. I tend to get them early because all the good ones are usually gone by December.

  6. I don't like Christmas, but that has happened over the years, and part of is definitely having Christmas crammed down my throat starting before Halloween. I don't like a holiday that has turned into such a greedy holiday. Stores put Christmas things out earlier and earlier to prompt customers to start spending earlier, then spending more over the entire holiday season.

    1. Yup. I couldn't believe the Christmas stuff I saw BEFORE Halloween. Target had an entire row out.

  7. Ouch to this guy up here ^^ Bitter train, party of one..

I usually am the person who hates this as well. But, over the past couple of years I've felt like Christmas has been a little rushed. I'm kinda okay with starting it early this year because I want to savor the time of year. Don't hate me :)

    1. Nah, I don't hate you. Lots of my friends are excited about Christmas NOW and have already decorated their homes.

  9. I had something great to say about Christmas, but I'm distracted by the anti-American woman comment above - WHAT?

Okay, now back to Christmas - I am the same way and I always wait until AFTER Thanksgiving to decorate, but this year I'm having to do it before because I have friends wanting to do a "tree hop" for Black Friday so I have to decorate before...if it wasn't for that I'd totally be waiting!

    1. A tree hop sounds like fun. I bring out tree out after Thanksgiving. Hopefully it still works. I sort of stuffed it back in the bag and threw it in the garage last year.

  11. YES to this whole post!

It's definitely way too early for Christmas. I saw some stuff in stores in the beginning of October and it makes me crazy. I typically refuse to do anything Christmas related until after Thanksgiving but this year, I feel like I have to buy some decorations because once Thanksgiving is over, stores will probably start getting ready for Valentine's Day.

That's a whole separate rant for me.

    1. Oh yeah, you know right after Christmas they start setting out for Valentine's Day. I remember that last year.

  12. Preach sister! Growing up, we never decorated before Thanksgiving. It used to be such a big deal when stores put out Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving. It annoys me that Christmas is starting to go up right after Halloween.

  14. I agree - the Christmas stuff comes out earlier and earlier every year. Like you I love Christmas but not year round!!!

  15. Usually i am so with you. My mom used to drive me crazy. She once decorated on October 1st. That woman lives for Christmas. But, this year i am one of them. I fell through the rabbit hole. I caved! I am weak!

  16. I have started Christmas shopping... not because I am in the spirit but because I want to spread out the cost and I don't want to rush around at the last minute.
That being said it doesn't mean I want to see it all in stores and listen to music this early

    1. I do start Christmas shopping early too. Just so I don't have to spend a ton of money at once.

  17. I'll do all the pre-Thanksgiving decorating for you! :)

  18. Today I was in Rite Aid and a Christmas song was playing. Then it changed to something else and the clerk rolled her eyes and said she wanted to hide the Christmas music for another month.
I agree - some of the excitement is lost. A month (the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas) is honestly the perfect amount of time to get psyched. Why make it two months? I want to think about Halloween and Thanksgiving.

  19. I totally agree - and this year, some of our stores had Christmas stuff out before Halloween! The magic is definitely lost when it drags on for so long.

  20. Totally agree. Xmas started here in Aus back in Aug/Sept and we don't have our official xmas parade until Nov6 so what's the point in starting early? I also know easter buns will be in store Jan 1.

  21. anti xmas before t.giving. i want to experience it in all its glory, and i really do...just the day after thanksgiving.

  22. My folks and I have always started Christmas decs on the first weekend in Dec. To me that is early enough!

  23. Normally, I'm an after Thanksgiving kind of girl, but this year, I am starting Christmas early - mostly because I need the extra month in order to get ready :)

  24. This is why Canadian thanksgiving rocks! We had our thanksgiving in October. So after Remembrance Day in November (which I think should ALWAYS be waited for) it's kind of free reign to get Christmas-y!!

  25. i'm actually really excited about christmas now. it's mid-nov so it's ok to see christmas stuff. back when it was mod-oct and the stores had their christmas stuff out, i was like WTF dudes; calm yo' self!!

  26. Once they put the Christmas stuff out in the stores, my shopping trips take twice as long. Even if I'm not buying Christmas stuff, I have to stop in that section and just look at it all. Have to.
