Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Politics On Facebook

"If you're republican, please unfriend me."

I've seen this floating around Facebook with different variations. Some replace the word "republican" with "democrat." Others have "Donald Trump" or "Hillary Clinton" in the space.

I'm all:

Are these people serious?

Look, I admit, I find myself more Republican than Democrat. But I don't consider myself in either party. I feel like Republican presidents treat our military members better. But I don't agree with the stance of marriage being between one man and one woman.

My kids wear shirts like this:

Basically, I'm not crazy into politics. But some people on Facebook are, and it's downright scary. It's okay to have an opinion. But don't freak out if someone doesn't share that view. Many of my friends DO believe marriage is between a man and a woman but they are SANE about it. They don't chew me out for not sharing the same opinion.

Some people on Facebook frighten me--to the point where I have to hide their statues until after the election. It's okay to be passionate, but if it gets mean?

I'm out.

  1. Political season is when you find out who your true friends are. :) I've been unfriended for just voting a certain way. Most of my community is R but I am D, so I don't really share a lot of political thoughts on FB. It's just messy. I do love how so many people are against hate that they'll hate on someone who is using religion as a basis for hatred.

  2. I have such a hard time with politics because I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal. There is never anyone running for office that I agree with the majority of what they say. I had someone post of fb this week how if you cuss in your statuses or posts that she will delete you, because she just rededicated her life to church and can't be around that. I saved her the effort and deleted her.

  3. Facebook is crap. Don't pay any attention to that; most of those loud mouths are not voting anyway just running their mouths.

  4. This is why I stay of Facebook for the most part. People just take it to the extreme. If you have to jam your opinion down someones throat they won't ever "hear" your message.

  5. what I don't like is the closemindedness and rude statements of some of my friends. "If you don't like Trump, you're an idiot! If Hilary Clinton gets elected, I'm moving to Canada!" Its okay for everyone to have a different opinion as long as you don't make the OTHER person feel stupid for having a different opinion :)

  6. Oh girl, I think I've unfollowed ten people lately, and we still have a long time before the election.
I'm more Democrat than Republican by far, but I think the two sides have become so opposite and polarized and.. comical. It doesn't have to be that way.
Someone out there has to make sense one day!
The grand statements are ridiculous. I have friends of all political sentiments.

  7. Ugh, I seriously can't stand politics, especially on Facebook. I just scroll past them because 95% of the time it is uninformed, uneducated ranting and I just don't have time for that.

  9. It's that time of year when I'm ready to quit ALL social media because people are crazy on every platform. You can rant on and on about whichever candidate you like and why *I* should like them but all that is going to do is tick me off; not change my mind about the candidate I happen to think is the better choice.

  11. I have seen a lot of nastiness on FB lately. It's WAY too early in the re-election cycle for these kind of crazy stupid statements to be coming out of peoples "mouths". :-/

  12. Amen! We're all entitled to our own opinions, but better not preach it over FB... I stay away from discussing politics with friends, it never ends up well!!

  13. Right there with you! I hate political discussions on Facebook, they are worthless. They would be better served getting out and doing something if they feel strongly about an issue.

  16. I get annoyed by politics on Facebook, but usually only because the things that are posted are inaccurate. It's too bad that so many people how little to zero tolerance for differences because Facebook could be a great place for people to discuss issues and become more informed. Instead, lame memes are posted.
