Hey Parents, Your Hatchimal Isn't Cursing

Good grief.

Over the past few days I've seen several stories about parents complaining about Hatchimals. You remember Hatchimals, right? They were impossible to find during the holidays so some parents forked over over $200 so their angel could have it. I personally would never. I lucked out and found one at regular price. ($59)

My daughter was thrilled to get a Hatchimal. She had been hoping for one but if she hadn't received one, she'd have moved on because she knows she won't get everything she asks for. Santa is busy. Santa can't always get everything on the list. Santa is tired.

Now. Some parents are all, "The Hatchimal wouldn't come out of the egg."

Did they expect it to POP out of the egg? Because it doesn't DO that. You have to pull it out. It's a toy that's under $100 (if you were sane, that is.) If you were expecting the toy to leap out on its own, sorry, but it's not gonna happen if it's under $100.

My daughter took care of the egg before the Hatchimal came out. You do various things with it. Rub it. Rock it. Talk to it.

About a half hour later, a song will be heard and the thing will start pecking. Again. PECKING. It won't leap out on its own. Yes, your kid will most likely have to help getting the egg off. You'll find egg bits all over the place.

Then you have to PULL the Hatchimal out. There is plastic around it you have to cut away. I took a video when it was about to come out of the egg:

My daughter had a BLAST taking care of her egg and then finding out what her Hatchimal looked like.

Then some stories emerged that the Hatchimals are cursing. I mean, MAYBE this could happen because it does seem like the thing will mimic you. So if you curse...it might curse. But it doesn't do it on its own. It blabbers away, but I have yet to hear a shit or fu*k me emerge as some are claiming and if it does, it means it was in the kitchen with me while I was cooking.

I'm thinking some parents are complaining because they're PISSED that they forked over $200 and now it's a cursing paperweight. Or so they say. Maybe they're hoping the company will be like, "Oh man, sorry, here's a refund." Or, "here's a new Hatchimal.." because let's be honest, the best part is when it comes out of the egg.

Look, if your kid has fun with it, who cares? My daughter plays with hers now and again. If it won't shut up, she turns it off. I don't think it's even made it to the kid stage. It might forever be stuck on toddler. Still, she loves it. She lugs it around (off), and calls it Pecky. It joined us for tea the other day.

Come on. Let's start 2017 right. Less complaining.

More cupcakes.

Deal?

  1. Funny how there is always that ONE thing every season all the kids want! Even funnier what lengths some parents will go through to make sure their kids get it!!! Oh what we won't do for our little ones

  5. I've read about this! I definitely agree that it's people just wanting a refund mostly! Some people will always find a reason to complain x

  9. Well I can tell I don't have little ones around the house anymore. I've never seen this before but its really neat. Thanks for sharing. Would be great for the grandkids.

  10. I remember the exact same stories about Furbies. If you have a cursing Hatchimal, look in the mirror. That's where it learned the words!

  12. My kids did not ask for one of these. These do seem cool to have and are cute looking

  13. Awe, your daughter was definitely enjoying her hatchimal! Such a cute toy but I would never be one of those people buying one for $200 in desperation haha

  14. What a funny post. I definitely don't think I would ever spend that much on a toy! But who knows... I am only on my first child.

  15. This toy reminds me of my crazy Furbie from the 90's that everyone went wild over for a while. Too funny!

  16. haha, it seems like parents are the problem!!
I think it's awesome that you got one at cost. Lucky Natalie!

  18. wow some parents spent $200 for a hatchimal? cool toy though. I can see why the kids would want one of these.

  19. It's so funny, this reminds me so much of the Furby craze when I was a kid. I didn't really get what all the fuss was about back then but if your daughter likes it then that's all that matters!

  20. This seems WAY cooler than the Tamagotchis that were the it-thing when I was a kid! That thing beeped and you were required to push a button to feed it. Looking back on it, it's pretty impressive that we used to be so wowed by such a small thing! Hahaha :)

  21. This is the first I'm hearing of the hatchimal. I remember there being an it toy of the season when I was younger
I think it was the tamigatchi...similar only digital. Oh to be a child again!

  22. Taking care of an egg is hard because of its fragility, it is like taking care of a baby. Hatchimal and other related games can teach children of how to be cautious of its safety and needs, from where they may learn to think of others aside from themselves.

  23. Deal! I seen the story on the news of parenting stating that the hatcnhimal cursed. I knew something had to be up with that story.

  24. Hahaha! As always the overpriced gift turns out to be just meh. I think a cursing hatchimal will be funnier...

  25. Deal! Lol. Wow $200, toys are getting more and more expensive. But then again they have always been expensive. Im glad that your daughter enjoyed the toy and it would be hilarious is the toy cursed.

  26. Hahaha this is crazy! I mean crazily cool! When I wasba kid, I used to watched actual egg hatching from my Momma's poultry and it was so much fun. Have you lil kid experience that. watching a life coming out from the egg is a gift.

  28. I think it's pretty cool, my twins didn't seem interested though. They're 5 after all. I think it's too much to spend $200 on a toy, we have to stop spoiling our kids, really. Just tell them to wait a little longer. Anyway, I am always up for cupcakes!

  29. This is hilarious! I don't know much about these things, but I do know they're pretty expensive and remind me of the Furby craze from when I was a teen.

  30. I bought my daughter a first generation furby when they first came out. There were similar stories of them learning swear words. History repeats!

  31. This is my first time seeing this toy! I had no idea that it was trending. I feel bad for parents who spent that much, they shouldn't have and could have told their kids to wait.

  32. I had heard of these. I had no idea what they were!

  33. Cutest thing ever. $60 bucks...Yikes. It's a lesson though for them in caring for animals and humans.

  34. Had definitely heard of these, but it's so funny to see what kids are going crazy for compared to all my barbie dolls when I was young!

  36. ha. i have just started hearing about these and they are hilarious and adorable. the kiddies seem to being going crazy over them. also i just have to say like that DB tee.

  37. People are so crazy. The same thing happened with Furbies!

  38. My child may be the only one that didnt get one. I tell her on a weekly basis that she will be ok. I shake my head at that 1st Santa that she saw wh said his elves were fixing one up for her.

  39. It looks interesting, hatching an egg where a toy inside is waiting. I find it expensive tho for 100usd. I prefer to buy my something more important. Glad you bought one for a cheaper price.

  40. First off, I LOVE your shirt. I just got the board game for Christmas and am super excited to play it.

Secondly, bravo for scoring a Hatchimal and the regular price. I feel like this is just like the Tickle Me Elmo craze or the Furby or those talking Teletubbies (who also apparently cursed). There's an odd correlation between paying crazy prices and anthropomorphizing weird behavior on the toy... Maybe not so weird after all. LOL

  41. My niece would love a toy like this. It kind of remind me of the book 'flour baby'. Do you know the one? We had incident of a toy saying swear words. It was hilarious. We never gave it to the child. x

  42. It is crazy how some fold are selling those toys for $500 to $1000 during the holidays. It is heartbreaking. Anyway good job on getting it for the regular price. Thanks for sharing that the toy isnt cursing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Good to know! That story made me laugh about cursing Hatchimals. We don't have one, but I am loving all of the stories coming out about these guys.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It would be a bit difficult for your kids to want this. Though I find everything to be worth it because how of the quality, I'm not so sure about the $200 price tag though. Maybe I would personally want one someday!

  45. Omg this is one toy I'm glad my daughter was about a year too young to know what one was!!!!! I can definitely see the appeal though!!! They do look cute

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've never seen any toy like this before and can't believe how parents acts like insane fulfilling every desire of their kids!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Haha. That's a pretty crazy toy. It's funny seeing the toys that become the hit that everyone has to get, even though they know it's just going to be replaced by something else soon. Kinda like a furby mixed with a tamagotchi wrapped iin an egg.
