5 Ways To Stay Healthy As A Family

I won't lie, my family isn't always the healthiest. We enjoy fast food and pizza. We binge television shows so our step count is low. But I know I need to make sure we stay healthy. My husband and I are getting older, and we want to be here for a long time to see our kids grow up. I also want our kids to not deal with health issues. So even though we won't turn down a fry, there are ways that we like to stay healthy as a family, especially during cold and flu season.










1. Pick a vacation that everyone agrees on. I know. This can be easier said than done. But my family loves history so we all agreed to go to Gettysburg.


You walk a lot there, so that got us out and moving. Theme parks are always a great choice because you get tons of steps in there.



2. Work to make healthier choices together.




We decided to try a cauliflower pizza to see if we could get on board with the whole cauliflower crust craze. And guess what? We liked it! Granted, we aren't a kale eating family, and our mashed potatoes will stay potatoes and not cauliflower, but we try to make small changes.



3. Exercise as a unit.





Go on walks. Get the kids off their screens and bring them to nature. If it's tricky getting them out, promise food. Sometimes the promise of a picnic is all you need.



4. Drink more water by adding fruit to it. I'm lucky that my kids don't mind drinking water. But some kids struggle with it. My husband struggles with drinking water. But if you add fruit, it helps give the water flavor. There are infusion water cups in stores that make it easy!



5. Take multivitamins together.

  1. I agree that it's hard to keep the family healthy all the time- but little things here and there (like drinking more water and taking walks as you suggest) add up! WE all take different multivitamins- would be nice to all be on the same brand!

  2. One way our family has been getting our exercise in as a family is hiking. All but my youngest are able to do 4 miles or more in the woods. I usually wind up carrying my 4 year old about half way through..more exercise for me!

  3. We are still creating our own family and hopefully soon we will have kids in the future. For now, we enjoy our life together, exercising, travelling and making decisions together. Of course having a healthy lifestyle goal too.

  19. Totally agreed with you on that. We go outdoor as much as we could pretty much every Saturday at the forest near us. We hike, run, fish and camp quite a bit. I must say our family bonding is really tight and we've never been so happy in our lives. BTW, must get the Gummy Vitamin C... Thx!

  22. I am going to try the fruit water idea starting this week! Sadly my household got the flu it seems despite our best efforts. We think our vector was our 8 year old that is just so busy and so social and I don't think does enough hand washing! Keeping her hydrated and happy is the key at this point! After this, I think we will need a vacation! LOL
