What To Do When It Rains At Walt Disney World

Rain.

It happens often in Florida.

But good news! It usually passes. So if you look at the forecast and see thunderstorms, do NOT panic.

When we went to Walt Disney World in October, there was rain in the forecast every day. That rain lasted less than an hour. Granted, one day it rained multiple times, but we managed.

So what do you do when it rains?

1. Embrace it!

Seriously, it's rain. Not acid. So put on a poncho and keep going. Rain usually scares people off, so it means less crowds at the parks. Many rides stay open unless there is lightening nearby, so you'll find shorter lines.

2. Go shopping!

But be warned: everyone else will be going shopping too so it's not the most pleasant of experiences.

3. Eat!

But again: many others will have the same idea. It works out when you're in the middle of eating and it starts to pour. Then you're like, "Oh cool, I'm already indoors!"

4. Dance in the rain!

This goes along with embracing it, but remember: you're on vacation. Don't let rain spoil your time. Also, if you buy a poncho in the parks, you can replace it if it rips. My daughter's ripped and I just showed a castmember and they replaced it. You can find cheaper ponchos at Academy or Amazon, but I find they fall apart quickly.

5. If you're in Epcot, head to Club Cool and try the different Coke flavors from around the world.

I dare you to try Beverly.

There are so many options when it rains at Walt Disney World. You can also go see a show. There are multiple ones shown at various parks daily. But I do not recommend leaving. I'm lucky that my kids embrace the rain--they usually remind me to do the same when I get irritated.

Get your hair wet! Keep moving!

And then in less than an hour, the sun will probably be back out again.

  4. Oh dear, this will be a very difficult one from me. I live in a country where it rains an average of 225 days a year so going on holiday means I don't want anymore rain. However, I can cope with an hour of rain.

  5. Such a good article it was. I must say you have shown so many great points regarding rain and what we can do in rains. And i am super amazed with your great work. :)

  6. It does stink when it rains there, but we go in August, which is part of their rainy season, so it happens. We spend time resort hopping when it rains so we can see some of the other hotels.

  7. Go to Epcot and duck in and out of the different areas. You will dry and just have fun

  8. All great ideas! What I did not like was that every time there was lightning in the area, certain rides would close. It kept messing up my fast passes!

  9. I really like your attitude. When it comes to vacations nobody likes to see rain but you make the best of a bad situation. I kinda like the idea of running around in the rain.

  10. I love this so much! The great thing about Disney is that there is so much to do, even if the weather does get nasty.

  11. There was one time that I went to one of the parks, I think it was EPCOT, and it rained. Too bad, we were under the poncho in all the pictures!

  12. Love your tips! It rained the last time we visited Disney. The rain didn't last long, which I was thankful about.

  13. Can't let a little rain put a damper on your fun! I love Disney and would love to go as an adult!

  14. We were caught in the rain, very heavy rain, during our trip to Paris Disneyland. It’s really dampened our mood. Luckily it lasted only for half an hour and then we could again and enjoy the place

  15. We're like you and keep on going. Geat out the rain gear and go or head to an indoor show. There is no way we will leave

  16. I honestly don't remember one time we were at Disney when it didn't rain. It's almost guaranteed at this point.

  17. this is a great post some really good info, as it always rains here in UK we are pretty much prepared but when we think of those holiday spots it like "Nah it won't rain its Sunny Florida" or whereever LOL

  19. I don't mind dancing in the rain I used to do that when I was a kid. It is always nice to be prepared on rain or snowy whenever we travel. Always find ways to enjoy it, Disney is in our bucket list .

  20. You have me very intrigued about this "Beverly" Coke! I've never been to Disney, but it sounds like there is plenty to do, even when it rains.

  21. It can be disappointing when it rains on vacation. Luckily, there's so much else to do at Disney!

  22. The rain means less crowds and a lot less waiting! Bring on the rain! It's great your kids can embrace the rain and I also think it's a very good thing they remind you to enjoy it too. Looks like you guys had a great time!

  23. It rains so much in Florida, that rain at Disney is pretty much inevitable. I just try to go with it and enjoy my day anyway!

  24. We ride rides and enjoy the rain, especially on a hot day. I love when rides have short lines because people don't want to ride them in the rain.

  25. I visited Disneyland Paris on a gloomy October day and the saddest part was the photos came out gloom and dull too. But we had fun anyways. No one can not enjoy in Disney!

  26. It always rains when we go to Disney World. I’ll keep these suggestions for our next trip!

  27. Haha I love dancing in the rain. But yea, I think if its not heavy rain I would just put on a poncho and carry on.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't like rain but I would probably prefer that over a hot sunny day in Disney World. Our experience was extremely hot so it wasn't enjoyable.

  29. I honestly love when it rains at Disney. The lines get shorter, people leave and then it usually stops pretty quick because that's just how Florida is lol. I usually bring a poncho with me and brave the rain

  30. I like these ideas. Rain adds a little fun and you got to embrace it. Yes for dancing!

  31. Great to know that it has a lot of things to do there although it's raining. So we can still enjoy the place!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have been lucky each time I went to Disneyland. it was always nice weather. But yeah, staying inside and eating is a good alternative to staying in the rain!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yep!! Having a positive outlook despite the circumstances is really the best thing to do in the happies place on Earth! I love your genuine smiles!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I remember being there when all of a sudden the rain hits. The great thing about Disney is they always have a ton of things in doors to to. Whether rides or shopping or whatever you might be interested in.

  35. I lived in Florida for one year, the weather there is so weird! It would be POURING for 10 minutes then the sun would come back out. My husband and I (from Chicago) were amazed every time it happened!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love your theme. Rain is such a beautiful thing to be enjoyed. I’ll keep these suggestions for our next trip!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope I can visit Disney one day! If someday I visit the USA I'll definitely go to Disney land and try dancing under the rain

  38. I visited Disneyland once when I was a child and now even as an adult I need to go back, the magic of this place does not have anyone else!

  39. I am not a big rain fan, but when it rains and we're on vacation, we are trying to make the best of it. Your adventure sounds amazing and so much fun!

    ReplyDelete
  40. It's seriously POURING right now and our relatives are trying to endure Universal Studios!! Ha. They invited us but that's a big fat NOPE in my mind!!! I am thrilled we did not buy tickets in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yea.. this is soooo true about that Florida Life though LOL. Rains every 5 minutes. It'll rain down the street but the spot you're standing in has no rain. LOL. Glad you all had fun and yes embraced it.

  42. We were in Florida this past August right when the tropical storm hit. We were at Seaworld. We got some great pictures of "embracing it." I don't think we all laughed so hard in a long time. And then we were so wet and cold that we headed back to our hotel to settle in. Your article made me smile at our memories!

  43. One thing about Central Florida. When it rains, wait a few minutes, and it will stop during the rainy season.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would probably try to schedule our trip for rainy days, because I would rather deal with rain than long lines and tons of people!

    ReplyDelete
  45. It sounds like your family had so much fun, and the rain didn't put a damper on anything. I don't usually mind the rain, especially short showers. Sometimes around here it will rain for 2-3 days straight and that gets to be depressing, especially if we are camping.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've never had a chance to visit a Disney World, as there is no such a place nearby. These are certainly great activities for a rainy day! :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. That is why I love going to Disney World because even if its raining you can still enjoy the place by going to their indoor activities or other things like you've said.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'd probably eat and eat. LOL. But back when I was little, I loved to play in the rain with our neighbors. :)

  50. Heck yes to embracing it. I remember on the last day of my last cruise it rained most of the day. We took it as a sign to enjoy more of the indoor activities and had an awesome time!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love the idea of embracing the Rain! And typically the time of year when we would visit, our clothes would probably instantly dry.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I like dancing in the rain. But I always say my kids not to do that. Yes whenever rain it is the day to enjoy whether it is shopping or eat.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Such great tips. We always carry a rain poncho and I love your tip about going to Club Cool. Those sodas are fun, but a few are gross! Ha!

  54. This is a great guide! It's been raining this week in San Diego. I think it's a good idea to carry a rain poncho anywhere we go, including Walt Disney!

  57. When it rains at Walt Disney World, there are still plenty of magical experiences to enjoy!

Grab a poncho or umbrella from one of the shops and continue exploring the indoor attractions and shows.

Embrace the rain and splash around in puddles, or head to a themed restaurant for a cozy meal while waiting for the rain to pass.

Don't forget to check out the special rainy day entertainment options and character meet-and-greets that often take place throughout the parks.
