5 Reasons I Love Being A Military Spouse

This is in partnership with Gillette's new SkinGuard razor new at Walmart today.

I've been a military spouse for 17 years now. Some people have asked how I do it. How do I deal with the last minute changes? How do I say goodbye to my husband when he has to deploy? How do I move every few years?

Well. It's easy.

I love being a military spouse. Seeing him looking sharp in his uniform gives me a sense of pride. Not anyone could join, after all. You have to show that you are strong enough, and willing to live this life. You might even give yours for it, which is frightening, but soldiers proudly sign their names.

When you're a soldier, you have to look your best. There are rules about facial hair, length of hair, and all of that. My husband Tom reaches for Gillette when it's time to shave and I always appreciate the smooth face. I hate when he starts to get itchy. Tom appreciates the new SkinGuard razor because he has sensitive skin. With this razor, his sensitive skin stays free from razor burn and irritation. He used it with the PURE by Gillette shave gel, which smelled amazing. You can buy both at Walmart.

There are many reasons why I love to be a military spouse, and here are just some of them.

1. I am always proud when Tom accomplishes things. For example, he became a MTI (military training instructor) which means he helps mold and create new Airmen in the Air Force. Not everyone can do it. He went through several interviews, plus a psych exam, and I was even asked questions to be sure I was prepared for the life. It would be crazy hours, 6 days a week, sometimes 7. But I was okay with it, because I knew it was important to him. Being a MTI means he has to look impeccable, which is where Gillette comes in.

2. It's pretty neat to move around and see other places. So far my husband has been assigned to Nebraska, England, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Texas. Being in one area would be boring, in my eyes. I was also lucky enough to move around as a child because my mom was also in the Air Force.

3. When Tom deploys, it's never easy. But guess what I get when he returns? Butterflies. Most couples only get that in the beginning of a relationship. I get it multiple times. Whenever he would deploy, I'd put together packages for him, and Gillette would always be included. I'd buy it from Walmart.

4. I won't lie, a man in uniform is a turn on. When my husband is in uniform and freshly shaved, I absolutely love it. My kids are proud of him too. Not everyone can say their Daddy fights for their country, right?

My husband has to wear his uniform for work, plus for ceremonies, so he always needs to be looking his best. And yes, sometimes he'll accompany his daughter to a dance, and Gillette gets him ready for that.

Being a military spouse isn't the easiest life, but sometimes the things we fight for, our trials and tribulations, mean for a better outcome. A better life. It means that yes, things get complicated, but the strong can power through.

It means you get to be proud to be married to someone selfless, to someone who is proud enough of his country to serve it without question.

I wouldn't have it any other way and I appreciate Gillette for being there to help my husband look his best.

Do you know someone in the military?
