Review: Port Orleans French Quarter

I've always liked the small resorts. Port Orleans French Quarter is a small moderate resort on Walt Disney World property, so I'm always glad when I can stay there. Here's how I decide which resort I'll be staying at: I call Disney and ask what the cheapest resort is with the military discount. Last time we went to Walt Disney World, it was Coronado Springs. (See my review on that resort here.) This time it was Port Orleans French Quarter, which I was excited about. We stayed there in 2008 and 2015, and I was impressed. We also stayed at Port Orleans Riverside and while it was peaceful, it was a bit too large for my taste.

So anyway, this time it was Port Orleans French Quarter, and it's a gorgeous resort.

We had a water view, so our room faced the river:

Our room was a good size, with two queen beds:

Of course when you're in New Orleans, there are beads, so these were left on the table:

One of the perks of staying at a Port Orleans resort is that you can take a riverboat cruise to Disney Springs and Port Orleans Riverside:

We did take the River Cruise to Disney Springs, and it was a quick 20 minute ride. But take note: if there is a storm coming or happening, the boats don't run.

The food court also has a variety of choices and is large and spacious:

They have something called a Beignet Burger that my son tried. He said it was delicious. (The bun is made of beignets and it's just a regular burger.)

And yes, they also have beignets shaped like Mickey:

Since the resort is smaller, it truly is quiet and relaxing to walk around. You don't always run into a ton of people. This was the walk down to our room. It was about 3 minutes from the Food Court and maybe about 5 from the bus stops.

And yes, there is a pool:

If you want, you can even walk to Port Orleans Riverside. We did this and it took about 10 minutes. Plus it was a lovely walk.

(We stayed in the "princess" rooms at Port Orleans Riverside when we were there in 2013. They are stunning, and the headboard lights up! This was not the cheapest room with a military discount, but my daughter really wanted to stay here.)

If I ever had to pick where I wanted to stay, I won't lie, it would be the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian, but unfortunately we aren't related to a Kardashian, so we can't afford it. However, I am grateful Disney does Military Discounts and I am always happy when they say Port Orleans French Quarter is the most affordable. You can easily get to the food court and the buses without having to walk a long way.

There is tons to see and do there despite it being small:

There are things going on each day:

And yup, there's even an arcade:

Would we stay here again? Absolutely!
