Why Teenagers Should Go Trick-Or-Treating

I never get why there's even a debate over teenagers trick-or-treating, but every year there is. Most people don't have issues, but you get the few who think that once a kid turns 13, trick-or-treating should stop. Some states even have rules banning teens from going out on Halloween, which is bizarre. I think it's ridiculous, personally.

Here are reasons why teenagers SHOULD go trick-or-treating:

1. I mean, duh, at least they're not out getting into trouble. Teens could be doing so much worse than putting a costume on and getting candy. Just make sure they know their manners.

2. Sometimes it shows them responsibility. Some teens are in charge of younger siblings while the parent stays home to pass out candy.

3. They get exercise. Look, many teens are in their rooms sitting in front of video games. At least when they go trick-or-treating they're getting beneficial steps in.

4. It's fun! Being an adult is tough, so kids should have as much excitement as they can. Also, some parents want their teens to go out and bring home Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. *Shifty eyes*

So let your teens go trick-or-treating if they want to go! I'll let my kids do it until 18, but I'll be honest, I've had grown adults come to my home in costume and yes, I give them candy. It's a fun and silly day and people shouldn't take it seriously. I'd personally rather give candy to a teen with teeth than to a baby with no teeth. But that's just me.

How long did you trick-or-treat for? I think I stopped at 16 or 17.

  1. I trick-or-treated through the age of 17. It was a fun time with my friends and we were all behaving well. Fortunately, nobody who gave out candy in our neighborhood minded. I think they were grateful we weren't egging their house or cars. I also love bringing my teens with me--it's great family time. Why split up the family when we are all having a great time?!?

  3. I had no idea that some states banned teenagers from Trick or Treating. I can't remember when I stopped going, but I know I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm glad that you're allowing your kids to be kids for as long as possible.

  9. These sound like some great reasons why teens should go trick or treating, it wasn't really a thing over here when I was young, so I never did it myself.

  15. I think everyone should be allowed to trick or treat! I would rather have grown kids coming to get candy at my house than any of the other things that they could be out doing!

  19. Most of my trick or treaters this year were teens, and I am A OK with that. As far as I'm concerned, you're never too old for free candy! (Though I did stop when I was 17).
