My daughter said this.
Being in quarantine is no reason to have ugly nails.
She was all, "Look at mine!"
I was all, "But how do you wipe without poking sensitive bits?"
And she went, "You wrap the toilet paper around your fingers and go from there."
I'm all, "But how do you do your schoolwork? Most of that is typing now!"
She went:
"I can get it done!" But now she pecks. It's comical, really.
I continued with, "But how are you supposed to do your chores?" and she said, "I'll eventually get them done. I can't have a nail come off. It's my last set."
I went, "I honestly don't care, put away the dishes," and she was like:
"If one of my nails goes missing, I'm going to be upset."
"I honestly do not care."
"You wouldn't, with those nails."
Okay, yeah, I don't have pretty nails. Ever. I have a sensory issue and I can't do nail polish or fake nails. The thought makes me shudder.
Natalie said, "Missing a nail makes me shudder. Wait, I lost one." (She found it attached to the couch, weirdly, and glued it back on. For a while she was a panic going "My last nail! What am I going to do?" as if it were the end of the world. Gosh being in quarantine with her has been fun, super duper fun!)
Anyway.
She'll be admiring her nails for a few days. Eventually she'll lose one for good and these are her LAST SET. When she runs out and can't afford another set, she just paints her nails. "I mean, they aren't as exciting, but it's better than nothing."
(She asked me to take photos of her with her nails, and this one cracked me up. She was all, "I'm trying to take an Instagram worthy shot!" and I said it looked like she was sniffing her fingers like that one chick on Saturday Night Live.)
One day, and this is her current dream, she wants to go in for a manicure and get acrylics put on. She's never done that. Her sets always come from a store, in a box, because I won't pay for a manicure. However, since she had her birthday in quarantine, I told her when this is all over I'd take her to get one done.
Needless to say, she can't wait.
Do you always have pretty nails?
OMG! I'm laughing so hard.Kids pull no punches, especially our daughters. My are girls are the same way. I refused to get them acrylics. But they got older, and got them learned the hard way it's not all it's cracked up to be. But I love you and your daughters mom and daughter time.
ReplyDeleteI like getting manicures but I don't like fake nails or having my nails long enough to tap when I type!
ReplyDeleteHaha, that is very cute! I do like getting my nails done with shellac, but I haven't got a proper manicure in two years. I can't stand gel or acrylics though, and they are so bad for your nails as well. Don't let her do it, they will ruin her nails over time.
ReplyDeleteI sadly bite my nails from anxiety and this whole lockdown isn't helping! I've been meaning to buy fake nails to put on to stop me biting now that I'm not working in the deli, but have yet to do this.
ReplyDeleteShe is too funny! I think she’s gonna LOVE acrylic nails. Mine grew out so I just took them off the other day since I can’t get to a swim for a fill anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteMy nails are awful lol. I hate when they're long because I'm used to them being short, and I can't manage things as well if they get to a certain length.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! That's why I use Color Street Dry Nail Polish that you can easily apply at home! Check it out - http://www.colorstreet.com/tarametblog
ReplyDeleteI wish that I had pretty nails. Your daughter knows how to have fun.
ReplyDeleteI used to always have my nails done, but lately, especially because I have to wear gloves, I just haven't been caring. I kind of want to get back into it though.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter's nails are so pretty...I try to keep my nails done for the most part.
ReplyDeleteI used to adore getting my nails done! Now that I work in construction I just seem to break them constantly, and I am also guilty of using them as tools, which is a big "no-no" for pretty nails. Now that I am in quarantine I actually think my nails are looking pretty great! Silver lining I guess :)
ReplyDeleteI always love the humor you put into your posts. Kids can be brutally honest sometimes!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could have good nails! My seem to always break lol. Love your daughter's nails!
ReplyDeleteI went through a phase of having pretty nails right around the same time I was working in an office setting in the insurance industry. I'll be honest, since I started to work from home that kinda died off. I don't know if it's that I'm not expected to 'look professional' the same or simply that I couldn't be bothered to put the effort in - whatever reason, it's been a few years since I last had 'pretty nails'... lol
ReplyDeleteI've never understood the long nails...just not functional. I get fake nails and having them look nice but I could never do more than a french tip regardless of what's trending.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the reasons BB likes your posts. They are REAL. jehe Remembering The Trio during their ::shudder:: PUBERTY, BB sympathizes with ya. Although, must say, there are many a grown woman also freaking out about not having their manicurists...
ReplyDeleteI love her nails, so beautiful! I need to check out some nail tutorials so I can do nails myself at home.
ReplyDeleteYour nails look so beautiful! I am constantly trying to upkeep my nails! But I love painting my nails so much!
ReplyDeleteThose are really cute nails, but I would hate having to function in them, especially because I type all day, lol. I miss my trips to the nail salon! And she will love that once she has acrylics, she will not lose her nails anymore!
ReplyDeleteeven if it's not quarantine period, my nails are still ugly! I should probably try these tips. <3
ReplyDeleteI love the relationship you have with your daughter! My girls aren't at the age yet where they want their nails done, but we always mess around and have a go at painting each others nails. Such an awesome mother/daughter experience!
ReplyDeleteOmg, this is hilarious! Your daughter's nails are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be able to do a thing with nails that long! That being said, I can't wait to get my nails at the salon again!
ReplyDeleteThis is really funny! I don't really understand why girls love to have these nails but I am sure she is really happy with that. Those nails are really beautiful, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteI do not like the press on nails..I have to get gels or acrylics because the press ons never stay on for more than an hour so they are a waste of money for me. Even when I get acrylics I get them short and in a natural shape because I am a hazard to myself if they are to long. I can not wait until the salons open again! I miss getting my nails done!
ReplyDeleteThose are such pretty nails but I can't do long nails or press ons! I have so much things to do that it will come off eventually.
ReplyDeleteI don't always have pretty nails. I do clean and cut them regularly, though. Her nails are sure pretty. -LYNNDEE
ReplyDeleteI haven’t had nice nails in five or six weeks since the social distancing and coronavirus began in earnest here. Your daughter’s nails look great.
ReplyDeleteI've been growing out my nails and I had to laugh because (and I cannot believe I'm writing this) I poked myself going to the bathroom like you said and it hurt like hell for three days! My nails also have an unnatural bend at the end from so much typing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post. Well no, I don't always have pretty nails as I don't always have pretty hair especially now...but your daughther's nails are super pretty.

ReplyDeleteI hardly ever have pretty nails. I don't like to wear fake nails. I'm just not a fan of them. I'd rather leave them the way they are.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is beautiful and I love her nails' art. I am not good in this art.
ReplyDeleteMany, many years ago I used to get my nails done every few weeks until I got tired of the hassle. I have not had a manicure in so many years and I know that I really should get one done soon. I'm glad that Natalie is having fun with her nails. After all, we are all in quarantine which is a great time to have fun while it lasts.
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more. There is always a good reason to have pretty nails.
ReplyDeleteThese are very very beautiful nails! I want them too!
ReplyDeleteHer nails look SO good! I on the other hand, have a habit of biting my nails and haven't polished them since I got married 6 years ago lol
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't have nice nails. I spent most of my adult life working on boats, so I always kept them short. I'd paint them for a special occasion, but they'd be destroyed the next day.
ReplyDeleteHer nails are super cute! I had been planning on getting my nails done, just a cute gel manicure but then the shut down happened and now I can’t wait till opens back up!
ReplyDeleteHer nails are really nice. Mine are not that nice, I used to cut near tip of skin. So even if I painted the nail it won't be good. I am fine with that. Any way keep your promise and take her to manicure once this done.
ReplyDeleteShe was so right about that! Haha and in fact,we have so much time to spare during quarantine. So let it be nail painting sometime.
ReplyDeleteI love fake nails,I always buy them in bulk, but even if they are fake I always find it hard to wash my pants.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely enjoyed reading your post and Natalie's reactions that you've captured. Now I feel like getting a manicure but can't wait for this lockdown to get over!
ReplyDeleteThose are some long nails! I have seen some ladies with long nails like that, and I don't think I could handle having to work around them. Looks like fun for teens, though!
ReplyDeleteNails look much attractive.... Quarantine time is the best time to take care of ourself ....
ReplyDeleteNatalie's nails are pretty! I can't stand the feeling of nail polish, it makes me cringe just to think about it. I keep mine short and functional.
