In fact, many of them feel like it's rubbing it in their faces. Like ha, we got a senior year, but you don't. Sorry. But oh, we're with you!
Of course, this isn't what the challenge intended: it was a sweet thought, after all.
But the seniors I've come across aren't fans. Heck, go on Twitter and just type in the word seniors and you'll see many of them ranting about the challenge.
I made this and shared on my Facebook page:
Many people agreed. Of course, there were others who said that there was nothing wrong with the challenge, and they're right.
But many current seniors aren't liking it.
And out of respect for them, I won't be sharing my photo. I wouldn't feel right when there seem to be a good amount who aren't appreciating the challenge.
Also, some people have pointed out that you're giving away personal info when you share your senior photos. Sometimes your high school name or mascot is a question to get into accounts such as banking, and other websites where you wouldn't want someone hacking in to.
So what are your thoughts?
It is too bad a senior does not have the chance to enjoy his accomplishment in the usual way. This idea is good but not the same.
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing when I saw all those photos popping up on my timeline. I don't even have a senior this year but even when I see them it makes me sad for those missing out on the traditional celebration of such an important milestone. Hugs and happy thoughts sent your way <3
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I'm hearing about this. Since I don't have a teenager in the US, I suppose this is the first time I'm realizing how much this year's seniors are missing out. I do agree with you that it would feel more like rubbing it in. I hope that when this is all over some schools will at least do some things like maybe still have prom or something.
ReplyDeleteI so agree about the kids not caring about our senior photos. I have teens and they would be rolling their eyes if I did this
ReplyDeleteI agree, most kids don't care about senior products. My son could care less about me posting about my senior year.
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad for the seniors this year. It's such an important year in a persons life.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that it is kind of irrelevant to what the current seniors are going through. It doesn't really help them in any tangible way. Maybe an online celebration of the current seniors accomplishments or something would be better because it would be keeping the focus on the actual seniors.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I do not have a picture as in my country this is not something that we are used to do, but if I had it I wouldn't post it either.
ReplyDeleteI did post my senior picture. Mainly because I have a grandchild who is a senior and know many others who are also. They were happy to see people supporting them during this time. My picture doesn't have any information on it that would show up to anyone. Its really not any different than posting a new profile picture. But thats just me.
ReplyDeleteI'm not the type to share my photo, so I didn't. I can see high school seniors don't care about other people's photos, but I also understand the intention behind it. However, I have enjoyed seeing people sharing their senior photos.
ReplyDeleteWell, it depends. If you want to share just because you want too, then go for it. What other people will say dont really matter. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't like to share my photos at all. But I think it's an individual choice.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's school recognition was cancelled too, it was one of the waited events.
ReplyDeleteIt intrigues me that a movement intended to show support has taken this turn. I have a senior niece and I hear she feels this way, too. I'm trying to see it her way. I am sure that if nothing was done, we'd hear that too. It's a shame that the seniors are missing out on so many end-of-the-year events. I'm hearing that some schools are just postponing until summer. I shared my senior pic, and several of my friends did, and it was to show that I am thinking of them and supporting them.
ReplyDeleteCovid19 really is affecting everyone and everything. I agree, posting your senior photo is not making anyone feel better. I pray this ends soon.
ReplyDeleteI mean, I don't think anyone is taking part in this to make anyone upset or angry. I think it needs to just be taken at face value and understand that their hearts are in the right places.
ReplyDeleteI feel so bummed for all the milestones they're missing. I hope all this craziness ends soon!
ReplyDeleteI have been debating posting mine but I am also unsure how it would make them feel better about not having their right of passage. My hearts break for them this year, knowing they are missing so much of a huge milestone.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about this challenge...probably it's only in US
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad for all the students missing out on the fun of the end of the school year, especially seniors in high school and college. I'm just so devastated.
ReplyDeleteIt sad that all students that has a moving up day like seniors and those going to middle schools are missing their big day.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of these things come from a good place but sometimes they can do more upset than good which is such a shame,
ReplyDeleteI haven't shared my senior photo. I can see how the kids might prefer not to see our photos, but I don't think I have many high schoolers following any of my accounts.

ReplyDeleteIt is sad that seniors are missing their graduation. There are lots of other kids missing out on special events too. I don't think it is meant to hurt anyone's feelings or even is insensitive to post photos. I don't have a senior, but I have been reconnecting with old friends and it is fun to go through photos together. Plus the photos are your yearbook photos, not actual graduation photos. I would hope that people can take the positives from these situations.
ReplyDeleteYes it is sad that seniors are missing their graduation.I don't want to share the pictures too.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know about this challenge. For me, senior year was just another year, I don't even know where the photos we took at the end of it are. In my country is not a big deal to be a senior.
ReplyDeleteOur local News stations are honoring the 2020 graduates but posting their pictures and a little bio at the end of the Newscast. Of course you have to send in a photo and bio but I think it's a nice way to share the accomplishments of the 2020 grads with the public.

ReplyDeleteI know a senior high student who waited for 7 years to pass the "senior high school year" then graduate, but because of the quarantine, he couldn't go to the stage. Sad. But all this has already happened and I think what's important is being safe. Hope you can share your photos to celebrate though
