Exploring Fort Clinch State Park In Amelia Island

I am all about history, so I knew I wanted to visit Fort Clinch when we were in the area. Granted, no battles happened there, but it was built to help keep us safe. Plus it was around in the 1800s, which still fascinates me.

We decided to go back in time, as this dude's sign says:

Here's who the the fort was named after. Doesn't he look like a fun guy?

There's a small museum you can explore before walking to the fort with info and artifacts:

This sign made things exciting:

Pandemic rules:

It's a neat area to explore.

You could see how the soldiers slept:

Cannons are ready!

We annoyed the kids with a family photo:

There are people in costume who will answer any questions you might have. We didn't do this since it was hot and there were always people asking questions. If figured if we had any, we'd Google it.

Natalie was all, "It smells in here. And I thought I saw a ghost."

We annoyed the kids with another family photo:

It took us about an hour to finish:

I insisted on taking a photo on the way out:

It costs $6 per car to get into the State Park and then $2 per person to enter the fort. The State Park is giant and I think you can camp and such but we aren't a camping family so we just did the fort and returned to real beds.

Do you like history?

  1. There was probably so much interesting history at the fort. It is great that we preserve our old past military bases.
