Visiting The Battleship North Carolina

Our family loves history, so we've always enjoyed checking out battleships. I think it's important for kids to know about the heroes who allowed us to have our freedom today. We were in North Carolina over the summer and knew we wanted to stop off in Wilmington to check out the Battleship.

Of course there's a pandemic going on, so there were changes. For example, you couldn't go below deck. You only could explore the top decks. But on the plus, the entrance fee was reduced because of this.

It's a pretty area to walk around, so we did that first:

My husband is in the Air Force, so we had to get photos here:

The ship is pretty spectacular:

There were signs reminding us of what was open:

Yes, masks were required, and there was sanitizer stations around so we felt safe touching things. You were still allowed to do that.

Did you know in the 40s, the Battleship North Carolina was considered the world's greatest sea weapon?

It was still neat exploring the upper decks.

There were social distancing reminders:

There were only a certain number of tickets sold, so we didn't see a lot of people.

I was telling Natalie here that a torpedo slammed into the hull in 1942 but it still survived. Pretty cool.

The full tour is now available. We have done that one before a few years ago and enjoyed it. If you want to go, the Battleship North Carolina is open from 8-5 every day and there are still safety measures in place, like masks required and smaller groups. You can click here for more info.

Have you ever been to the Battleship North Carolina? I know we'll be back one day.
