Valentine's Day When Your Spouse Is Deployed

It's not always easy when your spouse is deployed during a holiday. Especially Valentine's Day when it's all about love and the one you love is not around. But I've survived many Valentine's Days without my husband. Here's some ideas to make it a great day:

1. Have a Facetime date if you can. Sometimes the connection isn't always the greatest though. But try to set up a time so you can see your spouse. Even if the screen does freeze.

2. Send a Valentine's Day themed package. I did this for my husband. You can find a lot of fun stuff at the dollar spot at Target. Or go to the Dollar General.

3. Pick up treats for yourself and binge watch a favorite show. You don't need a partner to have a good time. I plan on buying some fancy cupcakes, putting on Real Housewives, and having a wonderful evening.

4. Remember that all the chocolate will be 50% off the next day so you can stock up. I love to do this! Pick up extras and send them to your spouse if they are also a choco-holic. Even if they don't like it, send some anyway so he or she can pass them out to the other soldiers stationed with them to help brighten up their day.

Honestly, Valentine's Day is not a huge deal here. But I did appreciate the card my husband sent me. Also, I totally picked up this donut from Duck's Donuts.

Do you have any Valentine's Day plans?

  1. I won't be spending V day with my partner either and whilst that sucks, there are ways to make the day better. Indeed, I'm looking forward for the 50% chocolates the next day.

  3. We're not big on Valentine's Day either but love to treat ourselves to something special regularly. And yes to all the discounted chocolates!

  4. However, it is certainly an excellent time to take advantage and be together, enjoy the time available and enjoy each other.

  5. I can so relate to this. My husband in the past working in the restaurant bussiness so he would not be home that day.

  6. I'm lucky in that my husband will be home. He isn't at all romantic though so if we do anything I'll have to make a meal or order something in.

  11. Thank God there's an option like Facetime now. Valentine's day way back 1990's seems so so sad for LDRs.

  12. Such a Valentine's Day must be hard then! It's still wonderful that you have someone to celebrate it with, even if he is a soldier. :)

  13. This is such a lovely post and will be so helpful for a few of my colleagues who have partners deployed at the moment. I know things can be hard for them when times are good, never mind now during COVID.

  37. I am sure it is hard when your husband is deployed during holidays such as Valentine's Day. When I was a military spouse we didn't have the deployments like you do now. I am glad you have the Facetime etc like you do now, we didn't have that type of tech back then.
