Egg Hunts Can Be Brutal

Gosh, I remember the days when my kids were smaller and I'd take them to Easter Egg Hunts. I didn't even bother bringing them until they were like 5 because by 5 I knew they could go out and get their own eggs. I didn't want to go out there in the craziness. Pass.

But then other parents WOULD go out and scoop up all the eggs for their kids. It's like, hi, your CHILD is supposed to get the eggs, not YOU. Obviously it's different if you're bringing a toddler, but a five-year-old can get their own crap, thanks. Why there wasn't a rule for NO PARENTS after your kid is five is beyond me.

I am so glad those days are over, let me tell you. Other parents pissed me off so many times when my kids were small. They could be so damn entitled.

Anyway.

Now my kids are 16 and 21. Naturally, I do not take them to Easter Egg Hunts. Would my 16-year-old still go if they offered it for older teens? Oh, heck yes. She always did awesome at egg hunts. She'd watch the other kids go to one area and she'd run off to the spot where no one else was and get a ton of eggs. I think she did Egg Hunts until 12? That seems to be the cut off.

I still do egg hunts for my kids at home. I throw a bunch of eggs out in the backyard and they are savages. They'll push each other over. My son does not care that he's shoving a girl out of his way which is fine, because my daughter will attack him if he dares to grab the egg she was about to get. It's frightening. (They did not act like this in public egg hunts, I promise. I would have not allowed it.)

I used to fill the eggs myself but now I buy the already filled eggs. Much easier.

After the Egg Hunt we went to my parents house for food. We didn't show up empty handed. We always bring rolls, deviled eggs, green bean casserole, and pie.

It was a fantastic Easter, and even better? Tomorrow means the chocolate goes half off. I need to stock up on Cadbury Cream Eggs.

  8. Thank you so much for sharing this great information about Egg Hunts! As a wife and mom, I can totally relate to your experiences with crazy parents taking all the eggs for their kids. It's so frustrating when they don't let the children have their own fun. But it's also great to hear that there are still opportunities for older kids to participate in egg hunts. I can definitely see my own older girls getting excited about that! I love the idea of bringing homemade dishes to family gatherings - deviled eggs and green bean casserole are some of my favorites! And I couldn't agree more about taking advantage of the post-Easter chocolate sales. Cadbury Cream Eggs are a must-have in our household.

  13. I remember the days of our big egg hunts! The kids were so serious about these egg hunts! We ended up color coding eggs and using other methods to make it fair and so no one was left in tears!

  14. When my kids used to attend and get so excited with egg hunting in malls and hotels, it's a bit stressful on our part as parents as other parents were too serious about it, missing the fun spirit of it. haha!

  16. Happy Easter. We do Easter hunts at my daughter's home every year and the kids have a blast. I've never had a stressful experience when my parents used to take us to an easter hunt at church, it was always fun but I'm sure some parents can make it stressful at times.

  19. There are Easter Egg hunts for older children/adults, and they come in the form of "Escape Rooms"!! Okay, maybe not the same thing but finding the clues and puzzling things out can be as rewarding as finding hidden Easter Eggs. If any of you haven't tried them out yet, my DIL highly recommends it and maybe it can help recapture that same excitement of uncovering things well hidden!
