Tiana's Palace At Disneyland Review

We've always been fans of the movie The Princess and the Frog. It's about Tiana, who dreams of owning a restaurant and she falls in love with Prince Naveen--as a frog. And Prince Naveen is also a frog. There's more to the story, and if you've never seen the movie, you must. It's streaming on Disney +

Anyhow. At Disneyland they opened Tiana's Palace, which is the restaurant she wanted to have in the movie. It's Southern food inspired by Creole and Cajun cuisine.

The decor is gorgeous and there are details from The Princess and the Frog scattered around:

You do feel like you're in New Orleans. I mean, I'm guessing. I've never been, but I've seen photos. Sometimes there's a real band playing jazz.

Here's the menu. You can mobile order as well which comes in handy when it gets busy. Mind you, if you order via mobile you'll get the ugly plastic containers. But if you order inside you get the real plates.

Here's the mobile window where you'll pick up the food:

If you opt to go inside, it's gorgeous:

If you show up at 11, there's not much of a wait. I did not realize this and assumed it would be packed so I had placed a mobile order. Oops. So I made sure to step inside so I could take it all in.

As with outside, there are many beautiful details inside:

Tommy and I tried the House Gumbo which had braised chicken, andouille sausage, and heirloom rice. As I mentioned above, since we mobile ordered it came in a plastic container but if you order inside it'll come on a nicer bowl:

There are also sauces you can add to the dish available but honestly, this didn't need any. It was the perfect spice and flavor. I'd totally get it again.

Natalie opted for the Gulf Shrimp & Grits and said it was amazing. I didn't try it as I do not care for seafood, but Tommy had a bite and praised the dish. It's simmered in Creole sauce with cheesy grits.

She said it was also spicy, but not overly so.

We also tried the lavender lemonade, which was pretty. I thought it tasted like a flower so I was not a fan, but Natalie loved it and randomly will say she misses the lavender lemonade from Tiana's Palace:

The buttermilk cornbread also was fabulous. It was fluffy and went perfectly with our meals:

Right behind Tiana's Palace is the Mint Julep Bar, and this is where you can get Mickey Shaped beignets. Tiana's Palace does have a special lemon beignet, but it's cold, and we wanted the traditional beignet.

I also ordered a Mango & Peach Mint Julep and it was refreshing:

We would certainly go back to Tiana's Palace. If you're visiting Disneyland, you need to go. It's located in the Disneyland Park in the New Orleans Square. If the food we mentioned isn't for you, it's okay, there are other options such as a beef po'boy or a muffuletta salad. Someone had also mentioned the baked mac & cheese was a winner.

If you go, enjoy the House Gumbo for me. I keep thinking about it and Natalie still dreams of the lavender lemonade.
