Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Parade Pushers

“Excuse me,” the woman said, trying to wedge her stroller next to me so that my son was squished into my leg in an uncomfortable manner.

“Excuse me,” I repeated. “No.”

She was not about to push my son out of the way. She should have been here an hour ago when I was. Finding a spot for the daily Disney World parade is serious business. Everyone knows this. If you want a curb spot, you find one early. You do not shove other people out of the way. It will not work. I don’t care if you have an infant.

“If I could just…” the woman tried again and one of the stroller wheels went over Tommy’s hand.

“No.” I said this firmly and stared at the woman with my angry eyes. I probably did look frightening. I had been sitting out in the hot sun. Sweat was pouring down my face. I imagine I resembled a lobster. I would not be shoved from my seat by a stroller. My son would not be forced onto my lap. It was too hot for that.

The woman gave up when she saw I meant business. She was not happy. I think she called me a rude name under her breath as she stalked away. Well, sorry. Get to the curb earlier. (And she didn’t even have a kid in the stroller. It wasn’t like I was pushing away an innocent child. I saw no tiny human beings with her. For all I know, she used the stroller to get people out of her way.)

Sometimes you have to fight for your spot at Disney World. But it was worth it.

Yeah, see the Evil Stepmother’s look? That’s the look I gave Stroller Lady.

  1. haha! The Evil Stepmother seems to be posing for you. And the stepsister looks fabulous. My daughter..man, she would short circuit from this excitement. And I would short circuit from the heat and the crowds. But it would be worth it.

  2. Oh man I hate when people do that! Especially when they squeeze next to you with their eleventy billion kids who are right in the road and you can't see the parade. Ugh. People need parade manners.

  3. I totally agree with you. I always get to events on time, I am also short, 5 foot, and am tired of being pushed around by these bullies!

  4. Good for you! I hate it when people show up late and push in acting as if you should be ok with that. Plus those strollers hurt when people run into you with them! When I was a kid, we'd go to the parks every weekend and we learned to sit elbows out so the pushy parents would stay away :)

  5. In the Disney imagination, you were the innocent princess and she was evil queen trying to show you up haha! - good for you for standing up for her (and a whole lot of boos for running over your son's hand with that stroller). She probably is one of those people who uses a baby stroller to cut in line

  6. You didn't sweat bullets for nothing! Sadly there will always be people who think they can push their way to the front! Good for you for sticking to your guns!

Too bad they let rude people in.

  8. Good for you! I was pretty lethal with a stroller while we were there, but that was mostly cutting off people who were trying to get between me and my in-laws in front of me. I was NOT going to get lost!!

  10. I hate pushy people! It's so rude! Last time we were at Magic Kingdom I was determined to get a great spot for the evening parade so I forced my family to sit on a curb 1.5hrs ahead of schedule. After a half hour of sitting I was starting to wonder why others were not starting to line up. There was no parade scheduled that day, I had forgotten to read my schedule!

  11. yeah. I got cut in front of at the parade too. by a guy with a kid on his shoulders. I wasn't up front at all, but now I couldn't see a thing! my kids went up somehow and I couldn't even see them, so I hope they didn't push people out of their way!

  13. I had a similar experience on our last trip to Disney for the night parade! We got there WAY before the start time to secure our spots and a lady got really huffy because she thought my wheelchair took up too much space! If she wanted a closer spot she should have gotten there sooner! People have some nerve!

  14. Ugh. She needs to stick that stroller where the sun don't shine!
It all looks like so much fun!

  15. People are so rude! You're right, if she wanted a spot up front she should have gotten there earlier instead of pushing her way in.
