Should Kids Go To Fright Fest At Six Flags?

My daughter loves frightening things. It takes a lot to scare her. I mean, she was a marionette last year for Halloween:

And the year before that she was Lydia from Beetlejuice. She absolutely loves that movie. (My son was Beetlejuice!)

She even had a Five Nights At Freddy's birthday party. It's a game where things can pop out at you. You'd think Natalie would freak out, but nope, she found the whole game hilarious. (Meanwhile, I keep leaping out of my seat whenever a jump scare would occur on the screen to the point where Natalie would be all, "Could you chill?")

So I knew she'd be fine at Fright Fest. Fright Fest, for those who don't know, is the scary events that occur at Six Flags after 6. I know some might be curious if it's appropriate for kids. My answer?

It depends on your kid.

Do they scare easily? Do they LIKE scary things? I would not force a wary kid to go. I saw several of those. One little girl in front of us at a haunted house location was flipping out to the point where her parents eventually took her someplace else.

But if your kid is like MY kid and LOVES things that go bump in the night? Take them! On the official Six Flags page it states that the scares might be too intense for kids younger than 12. My daughter is 10 and as I've stated, she's fine. She's been doing scary things like this since she was 8. I saw kids as young as ONE being led through haunted houses. Some did okay. Others freaked out.

Your kid can dress in their costume too! And yes, there are kid friendly things to do during the day. Tweety Bird and friends are in their costumes and pass out candy in a section of the park.

The rides are open during the day AND night. My daughter did them during the day. I did not. The good thing about Six Flags is if your kid is tall enough, they can ride alone.

Later in the evening, the haunted houses open up. If you don't like waiting, I do recommend the express pass. They start off at $25. We didn't get one only because we knew we'd only pick two houses. We did the Carn-Evil 3D house and the Blood Bayou path. We went to the Carn-Evil 3D one about 20 minutes before it opened and the line wasn't long.

There are also Scare Zones around the park. Natalie obviously loved the clown one.

Many of the characters WILL stop for photos if you ask politely. Be sure to tell them thank you afterwards.

There was also an Aftermath area:

And a zombie area:

The characters LOVE to follow you when you aren't aware. This zombie did it to Natalie and she realized it and was like, "Hey, what's your problem, zombie?"

(There are other scare zones too.)

Bottom line? Take your children to Fright Fest if they'll enjoy it.

So would YOU go to Fright Fest? If you have kids, do they like this sort of thing?

  1. i will actually not force the kids if they dont want to. I want them to know what to expect in there so that they wont be surprised and just leave. If they are not ready, that's fine. I know how it feels to be really scared lol

  2. My dad let me watch anything and everything scary growing up. He made it clear that that was the make believe world and not real. I know a lot of parents are going to disagree but I think there's nothing wrong with it!! It's important that kids understand it's not real, just dress up, just fake. I used to laugh at all the Freddy movies as a kid and I thought Jason was so lame. Though I didn't laugh at those twins in The Shining. That shit was scary. Hahahaha

    1. Same here! I remember watching Child's Play movies at a young age. I don't censor a lot of stuff for my kids either.

  3. I would love to attend Fright Fest! My oldest child is 4 and has been telling me all month long he loves scary things, but I doubt he's ready for something like this yet.

  4. I love how your daughter gets so into Halloween! Unfortunately Halloween isn't as big over here in Australia as it could be! The last time I went into a haunted house was when my brother was in primary school and he cried his way through it. I personally love going through things like that as long as it's done well!!

  5. I have never been to a fright fest. I don't really like scary things and scary movies. I don't really get scared but they are just awkward to me. I know it is all fake. I think kids can go to scary things if they are not the kind that get spooked too easily

  6. Hadn't heard of this before but it looks really cool, definitely love Halloween - always have and always will be don't think parents should be pushing children into something that is purposefully designed to scare

  7. I dont know about my kid she is on'y two but I do know I would looooove to go! As you daughter, I am a big fan of horror! It seems as in the US you guys has so many cool place to go on Halloween while here in Switzerland we dont much.

  8. Our kids have never attended such of fest. However, if we could joined, they will love this kind of event. I wish we lived in the USA. Thank you for sharing.

  9. At our Six Flags they give the kids who don't want to be spooked by the characters spider rings. All they have to do is hold up the ring in the characters will stay away.

  10. The kids would love this! Me? I'm the one who scares easily and they might need to leave me home for this one. I'm such a chicken when it comes to scary movies and events. :)

  11. It’s yet to be known whether my 20 month old daughter will love scary things but she’s pretty fearless. Your daughter is brave!

  12. Depends on the kids. If they want to go and try it out let them. Turns out it is not something they enjoy that is the end of that and move on to something else.

  13. I think my kids would be a little scared to go, especially my younger daughter. FOr us, Halloween is still fun and cartoon-ish. We're not really doing the frightful creepy stuff yet... at least not this year.

  14. This is awesome! I completely agree with you. It definitely depends on the child! I have on at my house who would love it and one who wold be scared to death.

  15. Reminds me of Halloween Horror nights by us at Universal. I dunno, I just don't love the scary stuff. But I am glad to see you and your daughter had fun!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Your daughter is way braver than I am! I'm a big chicken when it comes to scary stuff! My kiddo would not too good with it either. It really does look like it would be a lot of fun for those of us that do not get scared.

    ReplyDelete
  17. This is a really good post, I'm a sure it really does depend on the child to if it is a good idea for them to attend such things.

  18. I am dying at the fact that your daughter is tougher than a 36yo (aka ME). If she likes it, take her. Hope she had a blast.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wow!! Fright fest looks like one hell of an adventure! I think I'd love it no matter how much it scary it becomes! But, for kids, it really depends on them! :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. That honestly looks like a ton of fun. As long as it is kid friendly, I see no reason not to take them!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am not sure even I can manage Fright fest.Great tips but children are all a challenge

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think your daughter is much braver than I am, I do not think I could survive fright fest

  23. For all halloween lovers this is an amazing experience. Six flags is an amazing theme park, hope you had a lovely time.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I love that they have alternative areas. I think my family is going to visit this year. It looks like a great time.

    ReplyDelete
  25. You better believe they should go! Fright Fest is some serious fun!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think it totally depends on the child. My daughter sounds a lot like your daughter. We have an annual haunted hay ride that we go on every year here, and we've been going for the last eight years. So she would have been 5 when we started. She loves it!

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's really cool that your daughter happens to be into scary things! I think the Fright Fest sounds like such a good time!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree that it really depends on the kid. Like you said Natalie is a fan of horror and can handle it so six flags is perfect for her!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, Its true that it depends on our kids if they want or they don't want. Like your daughter Natalie she is a huge fan of a horror and its nice and easy to handle it, for sure. and this fright fest at six is really perfect for her.

  30. I agree that it depends on the kid. My daughter was never bothered by haunted houses but scary stuff gave my son nightmares

    ReplyDelete
  31. I won't lie, this wouldn't be a good thing for my kids. I think my husband and I would have a blast though!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I LOVE haunted houses!! I can't wait to be able to take my nieces and nephews!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Your daughter is fearless and so brave. So,it is good if she attends such fest as long as she likes. In my case,I don't like horror including such films. So,I dont allow my kid to expose on such horror in his small days. But he will decide when he grows up.

    ReplyDelete
  34. As a kid I would be scared to go. As an adult I'd love to. I don't know how my daughter would react she's very little to go.

    ReplyDelete
  35. As a kid and even as adult, these are not my kind of places. But if my kid loves it, I wouldn't stop.

    ReplyDelete
  36. OMG, Natalie seems to be strong mentally to not get that scared off! I would have freaked at those scary fest's. Though loved the rides and I'm sure she had a gala time.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Its so sweet that the siblings are teaming for scary costumes. That's awesome! I admire them coz I can't be in fright fest, hahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  38. We have never attended such of fest. But, I am sure we would love to go to this kind of event. I really loved all the photos you've shared!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think they should go! They should experience it. Seems fun!

    ReplyDelete
  40. We haven't been at Six Flags. We will probably on a different occasion than Halloween though.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Personally I'd probably never sleep again my entire life, but that's just me! :) I sure do know a lot of people who would TOTALLY enjoy this though, passing the info along.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love the costumes. they look so cool. I love the look of that tall ride. did you go on it?

  43. I love the roller coasters at Six Flags! I can't wait for my kids to be tall enough to go with me. I know they'd have a blast at Fright Fest too. It looks like a fun way to celebrate Halloween.

    ReplyDelete
  44. This is not my kind of fun. I'd love the daytime activities though, but after 6pm, I will be in my hotel room watching TV or sleeping. No scary things for me. My kids would love to go, so with my husband. They can enjoy. I'll be in the room waiting for them. Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree with you, I think it all depends on the child. My kids would love it though, I am just not sure if I have enough courage to go with them. I get startled really easy and haunted houses give me the chills.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It all depends on the kids'nature. Some kids may be able to take it in the right spirit and do not get affected, while some may not be up to it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Your daughter is so brave! I won't allow my kids to go because I'm a scaredy cat myself. I had to scroll faster 'cause I also hate clowns :) Some neighborhood trick or treatin is fine. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Looks like she had a lot of fun at the fest. I wish they have it here in my area. I'd like to go and bring my whole family to share the fun.

    ReplyDelete
  49. This looks like so much fun, but could be scary. I would have to really think about it and then make a decision.

    ReplyDelete
  50. We have a Six Flags near our house and we do wonder every year if this is THE year we go. Des isn't ready for it, but Scarlet might like it!

    ReplyDelete
  51. GAH! My last comment automatically posted before I finished! I was going to compliment your children but didn't get to finish. Anyway, your kids are awesome! I miss Six Flags so much, especially during Halloween. I moved to OR which doesn't have amusement parks :(

    ReplyDelete
  52. This looks like so much fun! my kids are a bit younger, but my daughter already is into more "spooky" things, so in a few years I can see taking her to something like this for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree that it depends on the child. My kids aren't into scary things so they wouldn't enjoy this. They also have a little bit of sensory overload so this would set that off. However, I hope as they get older they will enjoy some scary tbings. I sometimes like scary things depending on what it is. I think it is cool your kids are really into scary and spooky things.

  54. Great Halloween celebrations.. everyone is having fun.. and it's so scary! hmm...

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have always LOVED Halloween. My neighbourhood always went all out with decorations and haunted houses. We always watched scary movies when I was younger as well. Well there was the caveat that if we watched it and got scared during the night, we still had to sleep in our own bed. Halloween has always been my favourite holiday. I still celebrate it here in Australia even thought its not really a thing.

    ReplyDelete
  56. At our Six Flags they give the kids glowy wristbands and if they hold it up, the actors/monsters won't go near them. They do an awesome job with Fright Fest and we always love going.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I am not a person who enjoys scary movies or anything along those lines. My daughter loves stuff like that. Let the kids be kids and enjoy what they enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  58. As your daughter, I am a big fan of horror! It looks like a fun way to celebrate Halloween.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm open to the idea of allowing my son to attend Fright Fest. I've believed he's gone in the past with friends. I'm also open to attending as well.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I would like to try Fright Fest.. It looks like a fun place with all the scary costumes and characters. Your pictures remind of the series 'American Horror Story.' I watched that series and I found it intriguing and scary at the same time. I think Fright Fest would be that kind of experience.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Your scary clown is such a good costume and very scary. My son always comes up with a new idea for a costume so I can't wait.

    ReplyDelete
  62. My kids would like it if it wasn't too scary. I still have younger kids who only like cute scary.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I wish everyone made this so simple. I've seen so many upset kids who are made to do these things. Why force it unless they want to enjoy it?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Children have their own mind...not all get scared...some actually enjoy scary scenes...let the children be natural..
    Thank you

  65. Your daughter is very brave! My son would be so scared! Guess he gets it from mommy ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  66. My kids love Halloween and going to events like this is so much fun for them. However, I think they would be too scared to visit this place.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I can imagine it is so different for everyone - I love horror films but not sure I could cope with some scare fests (I hate ghost trains for instance). So I think I agree with you that its different for every child.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Whoa this looks so much fun! I don't really like scary things, I can't even watch scary movie trailers lol. My friends would absolutely love this though.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I am a mother of 6 children and a few of them love Halloween so much they like it better than Christmas. Not the meaning , just the fun of it all

  71. I don't how my kids handle scary things, I think my son can handle but not sure about daughter.May be We will take them to Fright festival at six flags. Both love Halloween though.

    ReplyDelete
  72. oh my gosh--forget the kids...there is no way *I* could go to this! I am WAY too much of a scaredy cat. My kids would probably love it though!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think it would depend on how old the child id or what they like. My son is 13 now and has loved frightening things for a few years. I would definitely take my son only because I know he would love it.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I completely agree with you that it depends on the child. If your child loves scary things, why shouldn't they go to Fright Fest and enjoy themselves? Also, your daughter is so adorable! I love her and her brother's Beetlejuice costumes!

  76. I remember when Six Flags was Great Adventure and Halloween celebrating starting way back then. Six Flags Fright Fest is very popular in our area,as are "scary" Halloween attractions in general.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Such a brave girl definitely most kids really scared about it. But it depends on our kids, Fight fest might be so much fun with kids.

    ReplyDelete
  78. These events look really fun! I loved scary house when I was little because I understood it was not real. Don't think I can handle running into a zombie on my way home

    ReplyDelete
  79. That's awesome! Love that Natalie enjoys scary stuff, I'd be totally scared if that were me! It's good to ask them about the fright fest and if they'd love to go or would rather skip it. You're totally right, it depends on your child.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I love that Natalie loves it. Seems like she is indeed an adventurer girl. Probably going on Six Flags differs when it comes to people and kids.

  82. For all halloween lovers, this would be an amazing experience. I don't know even if I would like to go there.

  83. This looks like so much fun! My girls LOVE Fright Fest!!

  85. Uhm, no thanks. I'm a scaredy cat. lol! My Sister would love this but not me.

    ReplyDelete
  86. No, I don't think so! I'm not a fan of this type of thing and I don't celebrate Halloween, but for those who DO like it - the place looks amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I totally agree with you, in fact i was planning to take my son for the halloween parties at theme parks this year

  91. My 20 year old daughter wouldn't be able to handle it. She had a panic attack at the Walking Dead walk through in Orlando (even little toddlers were fine going through it). However, my 15 year old would be all over this! She lives for scary things!

  92. I have two grandchildren (they're twins) and my granddaughter would love this but my grandson would be terrified. (Rena)

  94. We went about ten years ago and man was it crowded. I had a season pass for me and the kids at the time so on a whim we went out there for a few hours before closing. The end of the night show was awesome but it was so crowded we didn't get to do much else.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I agree, this completely depends on your child if they want to go or not. It's not something that all children can handle as there are those who gets scared easily. Love the tips and it seems like a fun night!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I think it's important to ask the children if they're willing to go or if they would rather skip this event. Although 6 flags is an awesome place to go to with the family, not everyone can handle the fright fest.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I always wanted to go as a kid. My mom said it would be too crowded, so we never went.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I haven't been with the boys to Fright Fest, but they've been asking to go. It should be worth checking it out sometime.

    ReplyDelete
  99. That looks like a lot of fun. I'm sure my family would love it there. We love scary things like this.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Why is she so brave? If my kid woul want it, then I will allow them. But one thing is for sure, I won't be with them because I will be scared. lol!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Fright Fest could be a lot of fun! I need to give this idea to my family!

    ReplyDelete
  102. It sure seems like fun for people who like a good scare. Some of my kids and my husband would enjoy going to this.

    ReplyDelete
  103. It really does depend on the age and the child. We have gone a few times and it is a lot of fun. The later you go, the scarier it gets, so it is easy to strategize.
