Things I Do Before My Husband Returns From A Deployment

My husband is coming home soon. Very soon. He's been gone for a year with the military.  It is not his first deployment. We have gone through several. Here are some things I make sure to do when he returns:

1. Shave. Yeah, I look a bit like a Yeti.

2. Clean. I mean, the house never looked like a total dump, but it could use some sprucing up.

3. Get his favorite foods. It's back to picking up the things he likes to eat and drink at the grocery store.

4. Turn his cell phone back on. We usually suspend the service when he goes to save some money.

5. Do a scrub down of his truck. I didn't drive it when he was gone. I would turn it on every few days and it would be backed up and brought back in the driveway to turn the wheels. Obviously the inside got dusty. The cleaning is not to his standards, but I know he plans on doing a deep clean when he returns. He always keeps his truck shiny when he's here.

6. Get some welcome home signs. That when when he pulls up to the house, he sees them.

7. Find a nice homecoming outfit. I mean, I tried to do this. I picked out a dress online, which was probably a mistake, because I tried it on and I looked terrible. I returned the dress and bought a nice sweater instead. I can wear jeans now, which I prefer. I am not a dolled up kind of person.

8. Get the grays out of my hair. I have lots of them.

9. Prepare to have him home again. This means reminding the cats that he'll be reclaiming his spot on the couch. Oh, and I have to share the remote since he doesn't always appreciate the reality shows I put on.

It'll be nice to have him home again. Sure we'll have to learn to live together again, but it always works out in the end.

And also, it'll be wonderful to have him doing the lawn again. I did not like mowing.

Bonus, this should be his final deployment. He'll most likely get out in 2023 unless he is promoted, in which case it'll only be a few more years. But at least he'll be home.

  2. When my son came home from his deployment, he had to take his truck to the shop. It sat in a storage place for a year and needed a new battery.

  7. Haha this post reminds me of some of my relatives. One of my cousins always do something different with her hair when her husband is about to go home.
