Bake Happy by Judith Fertig Review

**I received a copy of the book in exchange for a review. My opinions are my own**

I love desserts.

Sometimes I have desserts for a meal.

Cakes, brownies, eclairs, cookies....I want them all.

Bake Happy by Judith Fertig is filled with all sorts of delicious treats.

These eclairs looked mouthwatering:

Now, would my eclairs turn out looking as pretty? Probably not. But still.

This rainbow cake would be something Natalie would enjoy:

There are 100 recipes that seem easy enough. From tarts to cookies, this book seems to have all your favorite desserts. The pictures were enough to make me drool all over myself.

The author, Judith Fertig, knows what she's doing. She's had other cookbooks published, and she's studied at the Cordon Bleu. I learned from Gordan Ramsay that it's a big deal. To learn more about Judith, check our her webpage here.

If you'd like to buy a copy of Bake Happy, you can purchase it from Amazon or other book retailers.

Inside Natalie's Closet: Spring Outfits From Gymboree and The Children's Place

It's Spring!

I'd like to say that it means we can spend tons of time outside, but we keep getting rain.

Still, it hasn't stopped me from getting Natalie some cute outfits. And no, this is NOT a sponsored post. I bought all these clothes, much to my husband's chagrin. ("I'm confused. Doesn't Natalie have enough clothes?")

Natalie is 50 lbs and 49 inches. I think. She's close to that. This is from Gymboree.

That would be lettuce in her hand.

I asked her to smile nice for me:

Then she added some oversized glasses:

**Outfit Change**

This is also Gymboree. Both items are size 7 because the bottoms have an adjustable waist.

Natalie had to pose with her creature that she picked up from the dollar spot at Target. She spent like TWENTY MINUTES deciding which toy she wanted.

She's doing weird girl things with her fingers:

I can't believe she'll be starting third grade!

Her current favorite things? My Little Ponies, Minecraft, Five Nights At Freddy's, Fin Fun mermaid tails, and taking forever to pick something out at Target.

"Show everyone how I know how to use a pogo stick!"

**Outfit Change**

This one is from The Children's Place. The skirt is a size 5/6 and the top is 7/8.

She was like, "I have a secret: I just farted."

Then she was perfectly happy, and suddenly she went, "I just want my Daddy back." She'll randomly do this.

But then she cheered up again. Her moods are fun.

**Outfit Change**

This is size 7/8 from The Children's Place. I love kids in overalls.

Good news! We might be DRY next week!

Doing an impression of Farkle's laugh from Girl Meets World. "Hah!"

Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Babysitter Complaints

I like my junk food.

I cannot give it up.

Sadly, I'm getting older, so that means my metabolism has been declining. So I either can A) give up my junk food or B) start working out.

I'm allergic to gyms, so I thought, okay, I'll start a walking/jogging thing. I've been doing this while the kids are in school. However, the kids are out of school now, and I can't stop eating junk food over the summer, so I decided to still do the walk/jog thing in the morning.

This means Tommy is in charge. He's 13 and it's legal for him to watch Natalie on base. I told him this, thinking he'd feel mature, but he was all, "What? I hate her though."

I went, "You don't HATE her. She'll be all you have when Dad and I croak."

Tommy scowled. "She's loud and she's always touching my things."

I grinned. "Welcome to my world! Plus, I'll be gone for about twenty minutes and I'm on base on the trails. If anything goes wrong, I have my phone. I can be back to the house in five minutes. Two if I can muster up the strength to run."

Tommy agreed.

But Natalie? When I told Natalie Tommy would be in charge of her she was like,

"Are you KIDDING me? He barely remembers to feed the cat!"

I groaned and rubbed my temples. "Natalie," I said calmly. "It's for TWENTY minutes. He won't even have to FEED you."

"I can take care of myself," Natalie grumbled.

I started to do this on Saturday so they'd get used to it. Normally I take the weekends off. Natalie gripped onto my leg and was like, "Hurry back," as if I were leaving for a week.

It went okay though. Natalie eventually let me free, and when I came back she was on the iPad and Tommy was messing around with his phone. Natalie took one look at my red face and went,

"Are you okay? Do I need to call 911?"

My face turns bright red when I walk/jog because I feel like I want to die and keel over. Another runner even asked if I was okay once. I think he was worried I was going to die and keel over.

"I'm great," I lied. Sweat was dripping off my forehead. "I see everything is okay here. Tommy took good care of you?"

Natalie shrugged. "He ignored me and I ignored him."

Okay then.

But at least I can still walk/jog and enjoy some donuts.

--To hope Josh Duggar's victims got the proper help they needed. (Confused? Check out this article.) I watch 19 Kids and Counting, but it should be canceled, especially because Jim Bob waited a year to report Josh's molestation. Some people argue, "Could YOU turn your kids in?" Yes. If one of my kids was hurting another, I would. It would tear me inside, but I would NEVER want the child who was being molested to feel like I wasn't standing up for them. And that's my opinion on the matter. I know it's a hot topic.

--To be so tired of all this rain. I know I keep whining about it, but ugh, go away. It's supposed to rain most of this week.

--To have not done much for Memorial Day weekend. I did go to a deployment dinner put on by the key spouses, so that was awesome.

--To have written a guest post over at Samantha's blog about why deployments are difficult here.

--To be looking forward to Give Parents A Break on Saturday.

--To have a giveaway for $60 worth a jewelry from Soufeel here.

--To have thought it was funny when Natalie suddenly started to feel guilty about eating popcorn shrimp. "I don't want to kill them!" Um, they're already dead. It's fine. Enjoy. (And the bunny eating her salad is Carrots. She has to bring toys whenever we leave the house.)

Soufeel Bracelet and Charms Review and $60 Giveaway

**I was given the bracelet and charms to review in exchange for a post. My opinions are my own.**

Do you like jewelry?

I like jewelry.

Soufeel is a company that makes gorgeous jewelry. They make earrings, rings, bracelets, and charms, to name a few.

I was given the chance to review a bracelet and charms. It was an easy process to pick out the bracelet I wanted. The charms? Not so much. This was MY FAULT because there were so many I wanted.

This rose charm was pretty:

And I also liked this charm, because you could add a personal photo to it:

In the end, I picked charms that represented my life.

They arrived like this:

Each charm was bagged separately, which I liked. The bracelet was easy to open so I could slide the charms on. It also arrived with a cleaning cloth.

As you can see, I picked the following charms: one that says "WIFE", one that says "LIVE LAUGH LOVE", and one that represents my son and daughter.

I plan on adding more charms to my bracelet. If you get more charms, it can look like this:

Soufeel has so many charms to pick from and they are made in a variety of ways. Some are made with 925 Sterling Silver, others are 14K gold, while others are Swarovski Crystals.

YES, they can even fit on Pandora bracelets.

Soufeel overs free shipping with orders over $50 and a 365 return and exchange guarantee if you are not happy with your product. They also do worldwide delivery.

5 Things I Like About Summer Break

Today is the last day of school for my kids.

Tommy is finishing up seventh grade.

And Natalie is finishing up second grade.

I have mixed feelings about the summer but in an attempt to remain positive, I decided to do a post on things I LIKE about summer break. (But be warned: there will probably be a post coming about things I DO NOT like about summer break.)

1. No more homework!

You guys know I dread homework. Especially when it looks like the above. I have to sit with Natalie to ensure she gets it done. Some people are like, "Just have her do it herself. Don't sit with her. If she doesn't complete it, it's on her." But I can't. I'm one of those people who have to make sure something is finished, otherwise I feel twitchy.

2. We get to sleep in.

We love to sleep. My kids will sometimes sleep until 9, and if they wake earlier, they're old enough to get their own breakfasts and turn on the TV. I usually come downstairs around 915. This feels amazing, because during the school year I am up at 630.

3. We can do what we want.

I don't have to worry about planning things on weekends. Now we can take trips during the week. Normally it's just the errands I usually run: the grocery store, Target...but sometimes I'll take the kids to the movies or to a park. (The above picture was when we took a trip to Dallas and went to Medieval Times. It was a lot of fun! The knight threw Natalie a flower.) We have a trip to Texas for our annual family reunion planned in July as well, so that should be fun.

4. Stay up later.

I'm a night owl. I force myself to go to bed at 11 so I can wake up at 630. Since I get to sleep in over the summer, I usually stay up until midnight. I don't feel so rushed to get everything done because I have more time. The kids, however, are still sent upstairs at 8. Mommy needs her peace, you see. However, on Fridays we have movie nights and they stay downstairs later.

5. I don't have to make lunches.

No, I don't make fancy lunches, but sometimes it totally slips my mind and I'm like, "Crap! I need to make two lunches!" Tommy is pickier, so I have to be sure to make his stuff properly, and Natalie is sometimes like, "No peaches for me. Applesauce!" I could have them make lunches themselves, but if I did that, they'd put in cookies and brownies and call it a meal. (I mean, I have called those items a meal before, but I'm an adult..)

Are you excited about summer break?

Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Lying eBay Customers

Well, it finally happened.

I've been selling on eBay for years, and never had any major issues.

But then I sold this swimsuit:

And about a week after I shipped the swimsuit and cap, I got an e-mail from the buyer claiming there were stains and a hole in the butt. I knew there was not, because Natalie had only worn the swimsuit a few times, and I had checked the swimsuit inch by inch because I know Janie and Jack items usually get a fair amount of money.

Still, I asked for photos as proof. I sent her the photos I had of the swimsuit proving there weren't any stains when it left my home.

She did not send proof. She simply kept saying the swimsuit was stained. Then she asked if she could keep the swim cap and send the swimsuit back.

This gave me a bad feeling. Why? Well, it seemed the woman only wanted the swim cap. She expected to get the swim cap for about $5 too and wanted a refund on the rest. (It went for $38.) I refused. I said she could mail EVERYTHING back for a full refund. I also offered to give her the cost of shipping it back to me.

She argued. Said she'd take the swim cap. She STILL sent no proof of staining. You'd think if you were so upset, that proof would be sent. I get mistakes happen. I've purchased a few items on eBay that have arrived stained. When I contacted the seller, I ALWAYS included photos.

Then she asked for a partial refund. I said no, I'd only do a full refund as soon as she sent the swim suit and cap back. She said no.

It was back and forth, back and forth. Finally I told her to contact eBay.

A week went by and nothing.

I thought maybe she finally understood that she could not scam me.

But then she filed with eBay for a partial refund. EVEN AFTER I TOLD HER NO PARTIALS.

I was livid.

So I called eBay and told them what was happening. I told them I was worried she'd stain the swim suit herself and claim it arrived that way. I told them I was worried she just wanted the swim cap all along and was trying to get out of paying for the rest. eBay was awesome. The woman told me she'd check our messages and let me know what their decision would be. I was put on hold for about five minutes, and then she came back on the line and said eBay was ruling in my favor. I did not have to pay the scammer anything.

eBay immediately blocked her from being able to leave a negative on my feedback and closed the case.

No, I did not hear from the scammer after that. I think she realized I was not someone to be messed with. Unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers on eBay who will lie and claim there are stains, when there are not. I know in the future to list the swim suit and cap in separate auctions to avoid this nonsense. I always just assume that people are honest and it's simply not the case these days. People want everything for nothing.

So that was my eBay story. I highly recommend selling on eBay, because they will help you out if you're clearly telling the truth.

Have any of you experienced annoying eBay customers?

--To be proud of Tommy for his video on how to make friends if you have Autism. One suggestion? Don't be creepy. You can see his video here.

--To be going to see Pitch Perfect 2 with my friend Jennifer today. I loved the first one, so I imagine I'll love this one too.

--To have been disappointed in the Scandal finale. It just seemed too easy. Everyone is suddenly just gone? No. And I keep thinking, "Olivia. If he'll cheat WITH you, he'll cheat ON you." Dr. Phil says that.

--To be tired of all the rain we've been getting. I know many states are in a drought and would LOVE to have rain. Well, I'd love to give it to you guys. My daughter has barely been able to play baseball because of all the dang rain.

--To can't believe school is over on FRIDAY. Help!

--To be glad the kids are still cavity free. They had their dentist check up last Saturday, and everything looks awesome. It's because they rarely drink soda, I think. Tommy won't drink it at all. It's too spicy in his mouth, he says.

--To also be proud of Tommy for getting an Outstanding Student award in his Geography class. He really enjoys it.

7 Reasons Why I Stay At Home When The Kids Go To School

Sometimes I used to start up a conversation when waiting for the bell to ring at my daughter's school before it flooded.

Or rather, sometimes someone would start a conversation with me because honestly, I'm usually half asleep when I'm standing there. But there are those who are Morning People and they are ready to converse.

I join in, so I'm not rude.

A few weeks ago, a mother was asking what I did for a living. I said I wrote and stayed at home and she went, "Oh, still? Aren't your kids in school now? Or do you have a smaller kid?"

I don't think she was trying to be mean. My brain wasn't awake enough to really form a proper response. I said something like, "Well, my husband's schedule is insane, and if I had a job we'd worry we'd never see each other."

She went, "Oh, I have to work. I have to be independent."

Her words hung in the air. I said nothing. The bell mercifully rang, I kissed Natalie goodbye, and hurried my non-independent self home.

I do get what she meant, and I don't think she meant it in a mean way. At least I hope not. But here are the reasons why I do stay home.

1. My husband seems to deploy every year. If I had a job, I'd have to figure out child care. I would not want my kids to miss out on time with me when they are already missing time with their father.

2. We are not in debt. We paid off my car. We have no credit card debt. We don't live paycheck to paycheck. We budget. Well, actually, I budget. I'm in charge of the account. I pay the bills and I know if we have extra to do fun stuff.

3. My son has Autism. He doesn't deal with change well. If I worked for 8 hours a day, it would mess up his schedule and he could have a meltdown. I think he'd be okay in the end, but I don't want to put him through that.

4. My husband has a crazy schedule when he's home. He's in Security Forces. His schedule can change weekly. One week he'll be on the day shift. Then they might change him to the night shift. Sometimes the days he thought he'd have off are no longer off. We worry we'd never see each other if I worked. It's not worth it to our marriage.

5. I like eating my bon bons. I'm kidding. I eat Little Debbie snacks! No, really, what I mean is that I enjoy having time to write. My goal is to get a book published "the real way." (I do have one self published called The Swimmer's Assistant.) I sometimes get paid to write blog posts, review items, or write articles on websites. Writing is what I love to do.

6. I want to be available if the school calls. Sometimes Tommy is having a rough day and they need my advice. If I were working, I might not be able to take that call. I'd miss school performances as well. I wouldn't be able to go to class parties or have lunch with my daughter. My daughter is a kid who needs attention.

7. I'm never bored. Some people who stay at home say they get bored and I'm like, "How?" If I'm not running errands, cleaning, parenting, or cooking, I read. Or I write.

And yes, I am fully aware that there are women who feel the same as that lady at the school: they want to be independent. But again, I feel independent in my own way. I can manage a home when my husband is away for months on a time. I mow myself. I fix toilets myself. I can sort of build things myself.  If we ever needed the extra money, I would get a job in a heartbeat. I also understand that there are single parents out there who do it all without a partner all the time. You guys are my heroes.

But my story is this: I stay home, because it's where I need to be.
